Everybody's personality is different. Some may be extraversion's or narcissists, low self-monitoring or high self-monitoring and the list goes on. During this semester, taking Personality Theories has thought me more about myself than I have learned in my whole life. I believe that my personality stems from my family environment, my friends and society and then I get to choose what I think to be morally correct and what fits with my personality the best. With all the surveys and reading that I have done I have concluded that my personality is pretty consistent with what I believe that it is. Before taking this class I knew that I was shy but very friendly, I was very motivated in my school work and social life and my personality is pretty consistent. I also learned things about myself that I didn’t know even existed and now I know terms to describe myself. My personality development is pretty concise with the book. It says when we are children people can predict the individuals future personality accurately. When I was a child I was very shy around strangers but when I was with my friends I was outgoing and had a big personality and is still true to this day, so my personality has been pretty consistent throughout my life. This is called rank-order consistency. I may have been high in types of personality theories but as I aged, it gradually became more consistent. This brings me to The Big Five Theory: extraversion and agreeableness. As a child I was very high in extraversion, and like psychologist predicted, I still am. I am a very positive person, I care about my family and friends more than I care about myself and I am an adventurer. I balance it out with also being high in agreeableness. I am a trustworthy person and I ... ... middle of paper ... ...My parents have taught me to not be judgmental and to accept people how they are whether I like them or not. They have taught me to be optimistic and to enjoy everyday to the fullest and if you talk to my friends I am sure they would agree that I do that. In conclusion I believe that my personality development has to do with at least 90 percent of genetics and family environment. The other 10 percent I learned on my own, through friends or through society. Reading through the book has put terms to my personality traits that I did not know existed and now I can become fully aware of my personality and discover many more traits to come. I believe that personality development started when we were born and will continue to grow until we leave this earth. Works Cited Funder, David C. The Personality Puzzle. 6th ed. 2013.
