As a future Grand Canyon University student, it is highly important to me to be included in the honors college on campus. As a science major, I will have the opportunity to join the Honors STEMists club where I will be able to find other students who enjoy the various stem fields which I look forward to. The ability to room and be around other honors college members will definately help me become accustomed to college life. I do thoroughly apply myself as a student and a citizen both inside and outside of the classroom. I plan to study forensic science at GCU and hope to keep myself heavily involved around campus through clubs, intramural activities amongst other opportunities provided to me. This program interests me mainly because the challenge that it will provide me with for many years to come. I also enjoy all science courses, but chemistry is the one that is most fond to me. As a student in the classroom, I have consistently challenged myself with honors and AP classes. Some of these include various honors and AP Sciences, History, and English. Throughout my four years, I have stayed active in school by being a part of the baseball and the robotics program. I have also dabbled in the environmental club as well as best buddies. I had the opportunity to manage the varsity baseball team my junior year. During the course of my junior year as well, I was blessed with the privilege of being a member of the Mountain Pointe Robotics team, Pridetronics, and their drive team. During the season, we won both our regional and state competitions and was able to travel to St.Louis, Missouri as a part of the FRC national
The school activity that is most important to me is playing baseball on the AAE Varsity Boys Baseball Team. Playing Baseball relieves stress from my schoolwork and my busy every day life. It is a time that I can just relax and have fun in without having to worry about homework, my job, or any other of the extra curricular activities I am involved in. However, now I realize that baseball has given me so many experiences and has taught me so many life-lessons, that it has truly defined the person that I am today. Both on an off the field, my enthusiasm and motivation to obtain a goal is a trait that I am very proud of. I have faced many tasks where a leader had needed to step up and I am always willing to do so. I am also willing to get help when I need it. If I can’t complete a task by myself I do not mind asking a classmate, teammate, friend or a teacher for guidance. By bringing that openness and leadership to University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I believe that I can also attribute to the University of Charleston’s Mission Statement “to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.” By bettering the Athletic Training community by providing care to our Athletes I believe that I will be a great addition to the Athletic Training
I told someone when I was younger that I wanted to cure people. 4 years ago, I told one of my teachers I wanted to find the best school that would allow me to do that. A year ago, I went to Wayne State and I found it, my major and my school. Being interested in science and math has been a major component in my studies and choosing a career path. Devoting time to helping and working with others doing volunteer work makes the decision a whole lot better. Majoring in Pharmacy is the right path and Wayne State University will give me the best chance at following that path.
As soon as I started high school, my goal was to play college baseball. I played baseball for a very competitive select club that traveled out of town every week from Thursday through Sun as well as practicing every Tuesday and Wednesday. All through high school, I sacrificed my free time in the summer to prepare myself for college baseball. After receiving offers from four year universities as well as junior colleges, I decided that a junior college would provide me the best opportunity to continue to develop as a player. Even though I decided I wanted to play at a junior college, I wanted the experience of going away to college and living in a dorm so I decided to attend a junior college in Iowa where they had dorms for student athletes. Being ecstatic to be able to go off to college and play baseball was short lived. During the first month of baseball practice, I injured my arm, spent two months in physical therapy with no improvement, and then finally receiving the bad news that I would need surgery to improve. Surgery was performed over Thanksgiving break, but I was now faced with months of physical therapy, which meant
I was born 7 weeks premature, this has lead to some health consequences in my life. My right lung never finished growing and this lead me to be susceptible to severe pneumonia when I was 14 years old. I was hospitalized at Children's Mercy Hospital and incredibly vulnerable. Due to the expert treatment of the highly trained hospital staff that I received, I have now fully recovered. Since then, I do everything I can to stay healthy and keep my body and lungs strong. I have changed my outlook on life, realizing that every second is a blessing and feeling like it is my duty to give my time to the world. That is why I began volunteering at Homeless Centers in Kansas City such as, the World Outreach Foundation and Seton Center. I focused in the medical departments of these centers but I felt like I could never give wholey of myself. I did not have the knowledge. But just blocks away from these centers is KCU, that is why I aspire to attend KCU, it is an institution that provided hope in my mind that I could give
I have maintained a 4.35 weighted GPA throughout my four years at Payette High School, while taking and succeeding in the most challenging classes offered, such as Honors Calculus, D.C. Chemistry 111, D.C. English 4, and Physics. I have been awarded with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and Payette’s parade of champion honor all four years (For having above a 4.0 GPA). My proudest accomplishments though have come through my club, sport, and community service involvement. The activity that had the most impact on was participating in The American Legion Gem Boys State program over the summer of 2017. I learned a great amount about the procedures and role of politics in this country, and it spiked my interest in political science. Throughout my life, I had always received recognition for being very agile and quick. My first day of Middle School consisted of the track and field coach attempting to persuade me to join the school’s athletics program. I had previously never been apart of an athletics team, and was willing to take advantage of the opportunity. Throughout my three years of middle school, I was the one consistent member of the school’s track and field team and had an overall successful personal record. Coaches from opposing school would praise me leaving me feeling very confident about myself.
Cliffside Park High School has offered me numerous opportunities. I took honors courses in English, mathematics, and science ever year. In addition, I have taken three years of Spanish as a third language and an advanced placement class for U.S. history. Throughout the past couple years; I have been able to sustain a high grade point average of about a 4.4 (based on calculations made at the end of sophomore year) and make High Honor Roll for almost every marking period. As a student, I am an active participant in my academic and extracurricular activities. My first priority has always been to make good grades and learn in school. Although this is important to me, I also know that by participating in clubs, sports, and after school activities, I will become a well-rounded student. During the past years of my high school career I have participated and received awards in the following: Cheerleading (eight years), twice as captain, '97 -'98 Varsity Letter in Cheerleading, '98 AIM scholar, Who's Who Among American Cheerleaders, and '98 Academic Excellence Award while participating in Virginia High School League Interscholastic Activities. I also belonged to the following clubs: S.A.D.D. club (two years), second year as secretary, Pep Club, Varsity Club, Choir Club, and Computer Club. In the year '99 -'00 I received awards in the following classes: Computer Applications, Spanish I, World Geography, and Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry. I also received an award for Most Encouraging Student. I currently belong to the Hiking and Outdoor Club, Ski Club, Pep Club, and Environmental Awareness Club. In addition, this year I participate in a program called Read With A Friend. In this program I, along with a group of other students, go to the near by elementary school to read to a class of students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
I made several amazing friendships, took a few incredibly difficult classes and met some of the best educators during my time at Ada High School. My Sophomore year was certainly the least stressful of the three years. My classes were easy, I had a lot of friends and it was the year I joined the Distributive Education Club of America (DECA). My fashion merchandising teacher Mrs. Wright convinced me to do a 30 page written business plan for a fictional tanning salon that offered a revolutionary new color matching technology. I placed fourth in the state that year. Not placing in the top three only gave me more dedication to placing first the next year. I competed again my Junior year of high school, this time developing a business that combined daycare for children with proper diets and kitchen safely. Once again I placed fourth in the state. Not giving up after missing the second time of not placing in the top three was very difficult for me. I had made the decision to devote my high school career to this activity that didn 't seem to be taking me anywhere and I regretted not being active in Student Council or picking up a sport instead. Thankfully my advisor convinced me to give DECA one last try and that is when I developed my love of business, particularly in finance. For example, I am the current treasurer of (FBLA) The Future Business Leaders of America, Member of (DECA) it 's an international association for marketing that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, hospitality and management. Additionally, I am an active member with Upstanders, a club that stands up against bullying and hate; (ASA) The African Student Association and the National Art Honor Society. The multitudes of extracurricular and academic activities I participate in were chosen because of their focus on my interests. I want to pursue a career in computer engineering and/or biological engineering. In order to help me accomplish this I carefully consider how extracurricular and academic activities will assist me in the future. Currently I am participating in several rigorous academic courses such as AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC to gear me towards a college environment, as well as a variety of clubs that focus on engineering and the sciences. A vast majority of the classes I take are advanced placement, which gives me the chance to obtain college credit before entering college. Advance placement classes also challenge me with faster paced instruction, which prepare me for the speed and difficulty of college level courses. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP Computer Science A, , AP Literature and Composition, AP U.S. Government and Politics, Pre-AP Chinese IV, and Honors Independent Research. In terms of extracurricular activities, I currently participate in the Stock Market Club, Science and Engineering Club, our school’s FRC team, and Chinese Club. In my free time I enjoy building computers, putting together parts lists for computers, programming, playing video games, and learning about various technical jobs and new computing technologies such as server administrator and quantum computing.
