Many people will always tell you that “you’ll find your true calling during some point of your life”. As a matter of fact, as children we’re all raised to believe that we can be whatever we want to be if we put our minds towards it. On the other hand, the circumstances were quite different for me. Being the only daughter out of three children had a one specific disadvantage. To clarify, my whole life was planned for me ahead of time. I was always pushed by my parents into being a surgeon, or a dentist. For 19 years the idea of wearing a white lab coat, and drinking a cup of coffee before being called in for an operation was stuck in my head. In chemistry I found myself not studying, concentrating, or paying attention in class. The first test I received back was a “D”, and I knew something had to change. Fortunately for me I was taking PSY2012, Intro to Psychology as a credit at the time. Immediately, I found myself feeling excited to go class everyday just to learn what new tricks the human brain could do. Not only did I start writing all my class papers early, I began to continue my research after my papers were done. Slowly my love for psychology started to grow stronger. It would strengthen my ambition, and allow me to put forth the extra effort needed to accomplish not only my goals for myself, but to surpass the minimum requirements for each course I intend to take. Not to mention, winning a scholarship would boost my confidence in my writing skills. When the time comes for me to write my dissertation, I would know to prepare, relax, and stay on top of my game, because I’ll have the experience of writing an important paper. Ultimately, a scholarship would help me step outside of my comfort zone to realize that if I want the degrees that I think I deserve, I have to do everything in my power to earn
