My true passions lie in a pharmaceutical profession and are derived from my desire to be involved in the improvement of others’ heath, to fulfill my interest in medicine, and to possess the means to explore my greatest potential in a meaningful career. It set me apart from all my classmates. As a rising junior in high school, I began taking on more and more leadership roles. Going to college, definitely opened more doors for my potential career. Summer after my freshman year in college, I was given the opportunity to work as a pharmacy assistant at New York Methodist Hospital. Exposed to both pharmacist and pharmacy technicians, I was able to gain invaluable first hand experience and knowledge of medications and policies. My main role at the pharmacy was filling medications under the supervision of pharmacy technicians and filling code trays simultaneous checking for expired medications. These skills have impacted by attitudes towards academia as I learned the importance for detail and triple checking. Ultimately I decided that a career in Pharmacy was perhaps the best way for me to utilize my talents, while at the same time meet my passionate desire to make the world a better place. My professional background includes three summers working at a credit union, and the time I have spent job shadowing, both of which are valuable. They will help me by giving me a starting point to build my professional career. Work experience is valuable because it allows me to see how things work with jobs in the “real world” and prepare me for my future after graduation. The job shadows I have done will help me decide what exactly I would like to do upon my graduation. I hope all of my ideas point you towards the same conclusion I have made: I would make a great pharmacist someday and pursuing this degree is a major step in getting there.
I have always wanted to work in the medical field since I was a child. Around four, I told my pediatrician during a well- check visit that I wanted to grow up and be just like her. My love of infants and children strongly influenced my career choice because I want to have the ability to help sick children who do not have the ability to help themselves. I have considered many options to enter the healthcare field from nurse, to doctor, and finally came to the conclusion that what I truly wanted out of my future resided in a career as a Physician Assistant. Becoming a PA is not something that I have considered lightly.

Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. At that point, I knew I wanted to be a physician, staying in the hospital up late, wearing the white lab coat with the stethoscope slung around my neck, treating patients, trying to figure out and understand medical problems. This really grabbed my attention and I felt I could do this the whole of my life. In medical school, I enjoyed the visual assessment of physical diagnosis; obviously describing what I saw came naturally. I enjoy working with my hands and performing medical procedures.
Medicine is a ever changing field. A field where new and innovative treatments replace the old. For me, medicine is a career which allows the exploration of the intricacies of the human body. It provides the opportunity to better understand how the human body works and defends itself. As it acts as an ecosystem housing chemical, cells and microbial in order to maintain equilibrium. Along with making an impact on peoples' lives with my caring personality. Becoming a physician would allow me to be directly involved in the care of those who were in need, while concurrently provide affinity for lifelong learning. The importance of the becoming a pharmacist should not be about what the career can give a person in monetary value or the amount of accolades one receives. Instead, the career should be about saving and improving human lives and serving the public. Pharmacists keep people healthy, make them feel better, and try to help the public live longer and happier lives as long as possible. From small infant children to the elderly, everyone needs pharmaceutical care. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death if medication is not available to the public. Pharmacy as a career would be a wise decision if a person could withstand the amount of education the profession entails.
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. My decision to pursue a career in pharmacy began with the job shadowing of pharmacists and family members involved in the pharmaceutical industry. Having witness their professional commitment, persistence, and willingness to work with the general public made me believe I would be an excellent fit for pharmacy school. As a dedicated student, I continuously abide by the standards of academic excellence, research, and service in order to succeed. During the tenure of five years of undergraduate program I studied variety of different courses including Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pathology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacognosy, etc. but always found myself more inclined towards pharmacology, physiology and pharmacotherapy of all the different courses I studied and with passing time my interest just grew stronger. Pharmacists have very important roles in healthcare from all angles. Physicians and licensed practitioners that write a written prescription, the pharmacist reviews patient history, health conditions, and interactions with the new medication prescribed. As a pharmacy technician (for six years) I had a somewhat of an overview on what they accomplished in a shift but did not know everything on what I know now from this research.
