When do children become adults? No one for sure really knows. Some people think it’s the day you turn 18 others think it’s a mental thing.I know that I really don’t need to know how to be an adult quite yet, but I still have an opinion. Well I think that they are both wrong, I think you become and adult when you are at the age when you seek independence. That could be any age because everyone matures at a different times. The ways you can seek independence is by getting a job, letting go of parents, and taking your education seriously.
Many people remember their first job. It could have been getting paid allowance by your parents, babysitting or maybe even mowing yards during the summer. But I am talking about a job that you are going to
Now, that I am older and more mature, I can do the things I have always wanted to do as well as the things I never knew I wanted to do. I can do without authority; I can do without a plan, but all within reason. I can get a job to earn money, and know not to do it away. I can live on my own with said money, but all I could afford is a dismal apartment. At this point, I am all but disillusioned by what I thought was freedom. Though still with my goals, they know longer seem to fit. What I Iooked forward to, I would rather not see.
Growing up for me some would say it was rather difficult and in some ways I would agree. There have been a lot of rough times that I have been through. This has and will affect my life for the rest of my life. The leading up to adoption, adoption and after adoption are the reasons my life were difficult.
I do not believe anyone's transition into adulthood is enjoyable or smooth, losing your ignorance and being made aware of real world problems isn't exactly what you wish for. The event that marked my transition into adulthood is certainly nothing I would wish on anyone, but if I had not experienced this, I wouldn't have become someone who learned to take responsibility, and find reasonable solutions to seemingly impossible tasks.
People label children as adults and acknowledge that they have grown a sense of responsibility and direction, as well as thought of the future. I personally see the transition into adulthood as self-awareness. When you gain the self-awareness to really understand that everyone around you goes to sleep, wakes up, eats, and does all the things that you do it really brings a sense of humanity to yourself and you start to treat people better. When I was younger, I always wanted to be an adult. I was fortunate enough to have enjoyed a happy childhood, but something about being an adult mesmerized me. It is nice to get advice here and there from those that have been through the newly-adulted stage. Being an adult is not just an age.
