Personal Narrative: The Sport I Love

The sport I love: soccer. Not many think of anything significant when they hear the word soccer. And if they do, they just think of the sport, nothing special associated with it. Well, for me, that’s not the case. Soccer has taught me that it’s more than a sport, more than just kicking a ball around. I never really thought much of playing sports when I was younger, that was until I switched schools back in 3rd grade. My best friend Sarah finally convinced me to go to St. Alfred. She has always been the sporty type, while I have been the quiet, prefers a book type of girl. As school starts in the fall, one day during September, Sarah had come up to me. “Hey Nat, are you doing soccer this year?” she had asked me. “Um, I don’t know.” I had said, because I didn’t like to disappoint her. “You should. For the first example, it has taught me that no matter how hard things become, if you believe you can do it, you can. You should always believe that you can accomplish it, because if you don’t believe it, it won’t happen. Secondly, it has taught me that even if you lost, keep your chin high. Keeping your chin high shows people you’re not afraid that you’ve lost, you’re not afraid to let people know that you’ve lost. Last year, during soccer season, when I was a sophomore, we had this one game, against Henry Ford academy. Everyone on my team was so sure we were going to win, my coaches included. But of course, we had lost the game. The most infuriating part was when Henry Ford was flaunting their win in front of us. They were saying things like, “We’re awesome!” and “We’re better than you!”, right in front of us. But all we did was hold our heads up and keep our mouths
