Personal Narrative: The House That Built Me

When you look back at life, the time passes by quickly and things change, but the memories will always stay the same. Memories can bring someone back to a time in life where they had the best and worst times in their life; but that’s what is so great about them. A place where most of your memories were made can be very special, mine being my old house I grew up in. It was home, where I was most comfortable, so when my life turned upside down and we had to move, I couldn’t cope very well. My life changed, and all I wanted to do was go back to my comfort place; but I wasn’t able to, which makes the memories of my house even more treasurable. The song “The House That Built Me,” by Miranda Lambert builds up emotion as it reminds me of exactly how hard it was to leave my house from my childhood that built me; and even though I wish I could go back in time, it reminds me of how a hard change turned me into the person I am today. Miranda starts out this song by singing “I know they say you can’t go home again. I just had to come back one last time.” She is describing how she is emotionally broken and needs to go back to her childhood home to find something about her that is missing. Country music has a way of communicating like no other genre. Whenever I’m sad, the first thing I will do is listen to a country song that relates to what I’m going through. I’m always am wanting to hear the songs with the words I’m afraid to say. The music comes straight from the heart, and has a significant amount of purpose in each lyric that is sung. If I’m going through a heartbreak, a bad day, or even just want to listen to something that will make my day better, I will turn on the country
