Every person fights their own battles, daily. I bet if I took one glance around, someone near me would be battling. They may be winning, or they may not, but they are still going through it. Personally, one of the battles I fight is incredibly influential in my life. It makes me who I am, so I love it. But, it deprives me of so many opportunities, so I hate it. Anxiety is extremely prevalent in my life, and sometimes it feels as if it will never go away.
My anxiety is like a dog. When I was younger, I had a huge dog that followed me around everywhere. I would be led away from every experience that looked unsafe or worrisome. When we would read about diseases or health issues in class, my dog would jump up and knock me down, attempting to get me away from the possible danger. He was cruel, he was mean, and he ruined my life. He took the opportunities I had and threw them into the garbage. He destroyed my hope at ever ridding myself of his constant shadow. His presence was a dagger to my being. People were confused by my stressed actions, for they didn’t understand why they were there. I remember thinking, How do they not see him? How do they not understand?? For so long, I lived with a dog that everyone should have been wary of, and whom everyone should have been concerned about.
It wasn’t until I was older that I realized many people have dogs. Some are little and insignificant, but some are even larger than my alarming dog. People all over the world are dealing with their dangerous pets. Some don’t show it, and some do. But, everyone is going through the impossible in their lives. I realized then that I wasn’t the only person that lived under constant threat, and I wasn’t the only person that had to be careful in every aspect of my life.
