To be a part of the squad for my schools' soccer team has been one of my life's goals and has finally been fulfilled. My previous attempts to get on my high school soccer team in Jamaica failed because I wasn't skilled enough at the time. Since arriving to the United States, I have trained diligently and have accomplished my goal of making my school's soccer team. My experience on the soccer team has been great. I have gotten much better than when I first joined, which is always a good thing. My teammates are always helpful and never speak lowly of me when I make a mistake. We continue to grow together and share a special bond that we will keep strong for as long we play
One incident that happened to me that change how I thought about sports was when I first started playing soccer. It all started when my mom said that I should join a sport to get me more active. It took me awhile to choose soccer at first because there were so many sports to choose from. I told my mom I wanted to play soccer. She signed me up to play for a non competitive league (GYSA) so I can learn the basics of the sport. She also told me to play I would have to maintain good grades. After hearing that i always tried my best in soccer and school.
This experience has taught me many valuable lessons. I learned that it is important to fight and work for what you believe in. I have learned more skills than soccer, such as teamwork and communication skills. I have learned that it's good to broaden one's horizon by meeting and becoming friends with people from other schools and communities. I'm looking forward to the soccer district and regional, and we hope we qualify for the state championship.
I played soccer since I was seven, as of the last few years I played at a very high level. I have represented Ohio South two times at a regional showcase, I have been invited to participate in a camp in Manchester, England and attended the camp twice. Also last Season for the Newark High School soccer team I was named first team all league and third team all central district. Soccer was the first sport I truly loved to do, I wanted to be the best. I work hours upon hours to master whatever part of the game I wanted to improve on. Soccer has taught me to have a great work ethic, and that mentality came when I was cut from the state team the first time I tried out. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I was destroyed, and I thought I was not good but I knew I could do better. The next year I worked, I got bigger, stronger, faster, my soccer I.Q. was higher;therefore, overall I was a much better player. The result of that work, was that I made the team, but not only, I made the starting line up. After that I knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.
This past weekend, I had the marvelous chance to participate in the Division 4 Soccer Provincials. My team was by far not the strongest team at the tournament, however our determination to win the gold and come back with a banner was stronger than all of the other teams combined. We may not have had the best individual players, however we did not back down even until the final minute of every game. Our chemistry as a team was amazing, and it has taught me that you do not need perfect team members to achieve greatness - only drive.
I have played soccer my entire life. At twelve years old, I completed a Bryst soccer camp after which I decided that I wanted to play at a higher level than house league. My goal was to make a Bryst Academy team.
Growing up in El Salvador, soccer was a sport that significantly impacted my childhood. My cousins and uncles taught me how to play soccer, as well as various techniques that would later benefit me on the soccer field. At the age of seven I started to play for one of most well-known soccer clubs in El Salvador. Practicing twenty three hours a week was really paying off, as I could see in my medal and trophy gain. Not only did they represent my accomplishments, but they also gave joy to my teammates, community, and family because they were the people who encouraged me to give my best. Over the years, soccer has changed me as a person. I love thinking back at the great memories I had playing soccer. I plan to never stop playing soccer. Hopefully, I will play on the club team at Shippensburg and never give it up. This was one of my most memorable moments in my life playing soccer. Through soccer I made friends, learned how to be a team player and helped me bring my family closer together. If it wasn’t for soccer I wouldn’t be who I am today and I am very grateful for this.
Athletics have been a part of my life since I was three years old. There has been many great experiences however, the best ones were during my four years of high school playing for Muhlenberg. What I learned about playing soccer for Muhlenberg High School is to always work hard, to be competitive, and to have good sportsmanship. These qualities are important in my next stage at college and in life in general.
It was a dark and stormy winter night, and the whole town was watching the high school football championship. It was fourth quarter and the Cardinals and the Cougars were neck and neck. With only a few minutes left in the games and the two teams were tied. The band was louder than ever and the fans were screaming and chanting along with the cheerleaders.
Soccer has helped me to become the person I am today. It has given me the opportunity to build relationships that I would not have made elsewhere. Playing the sport has helped me overcome my issues with anger and has made me tougher as well. After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
I had to keep my grades up, and beg my parents constantly. Providing reasons why soccer would be worth the extra money. I would be learning life skills such as dedication and perseverance as well as the skills of the game. The day came for my first practice. It was challenging for sure, but worth every second. From the very first practice to the very last one, I always had to be very persistent. I went to every practice and game because I was willing to miss an opportunity to get better. The moment I felt like a lot of things it was in third grade….. It was at my soccer game and we were tied with the best team in the league we were rival teams and they were undefeated just like us and we were playing for about 10 minutes into overtime. But the thing was I was goalie at the time and it was my first time. So it was really scary not being the one on the field moving around and then me as goalie just staring down the field. I mean this was so boring. I asked the coach to sub me out because I just was not feeling it, but the answer was no he needed me in that position. I mean it was the only time I was gonna be goalie because are original was absent. This game. It was really unfortunate because I really had the most fun when I was playing offense on the other hand it would sometimes be midfield or even defence but, goalie that was not my taste.
“It’s broke, all right. You won’t be playing any sports for a while,” the doctor announced. My head drooped down, and I started shaking it slowly in disbelief. This all started on a spring day with only five more days of school left of my eighth-grade year. Excited for the approaching summer break, the whole class went outside to play. “Football time!” I shouted as my friends and I ran outside to the softball field, where we always played football. Once we picked teams, we began playing.
I started playing volleyball in seventh grade, and I had completely fallen in love with the sport. Growing up in a small town, our school always struggled to find coaches that were not related to players. In middle school, I would always be so angry that the important named kids got to play in the A team, while I was stuck in the corner with the B team. Eventually, eighth grade year I decided to join a club team, and increase my skill for freshman year. I enjoyed club, I had actually made the one team, and I had virtually no problems with anyone or anything that season. But, just as soon as freshman year rolled around my attitude changes a lot. I’ve gained the perfectionist trait from my mother, and with this mindset in a sport, you’re almost guaranteed to struggle. Freshman year I had just come off of club, so I knew so much more about the sport and its movements. Naturally I wanted to be perfect, I personally believe that I had done really well as a freshman, but when I messed up I became silent.
