As a Mormon, turning eight was a huge deal. Mormon lore states that once you hit eight, you are accountable for all your sins from that point on, it’s also the year you can get baptized and confirmed to be an actual member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was a pretty big deal to me and my friend group. It was a month after my eighth birthday when my parents and I were finally able to set a date with my bishop to finally get baptized. Sometime in between my birthday and my baptism date, I had an interview with my bishop; after all, it is his job to make sure I wasn’t getting baptised because I turned eight or because all my friends got baptized.
