Personal Narrative: My First Time In Football

I remember the first time I ever played football. I was a short chubby seven-year-old that didn’t have a single mean bone in his body. After my first practice at the lake Hamilton optimist park I remember the angry talk about how I was not being mean enough that I had with my dad and him raising his voice because I had made him angry with the way I was playing. I remember thinking that this is the first time that my dad (daddy at the time) was disappointed in me. Having that realization really hit me hard because up to that time in my life the only time my daddy had ever been not the nicest man I had ever met was when I misbehaved in school. When I was playing defense I filled my gap like I was supposed to, and I didn’t get drove of the ball like usual. I was getting into the backfield and making tackles behind the line of scrimmage. After that game, I was still expecting an angry talking to from my daddy but this time on the ride home all he had to say that I had a great game and that he was proud of the way I had played and my heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t believe what I had just heard and I couldn’t have been happier. At that moment when it came to football everything started clicking. That was without a doubt the hardest summer of workouts that I had ever been apart of. I went from my playing weight being three hundred and fifteen pounds to two hundred and seventy-five pounds and I had gotten so much faster and stronger. Well after that long hard summer it was time to start my senior season of football. With the hope, I was going to get a football scholarship to a small college I was looking forward to a state title run and interest from a few different colleges everything was going right. We start the first game of the season against across town rival hot springs and we blew them out and the season was off to a great start. The next week we play Bryant and we played a great game till the fourth quarter and we let us lead slip away and took our first loss of the season. We go on to lose the next two games and the season seems to be in shambles. But coach reed pulled us all together to win five of the next six games. We were on the up and up but along the way coach reed lost the team and a lot the players lost faith in him and that started the end of everything going right. we ended up in in the third seed in the playoffs. But by this time the team was in shambles and most of the players had given up on the season.
