My sophomore year eager to begin baseball season, I've have so much detonation and disappointment from the prior year. The team and i had been preparing our butts off this off season. We were determined to break the curse of the baseball team. Out of the past teams no one never made it passed the fourth round and we were willing to do anything to change that. This was the year that we told our self's that were we going to make it the distance and nothing was going stand before us. We needed to be the team to recall as the ones who broke the condemnation and made it to state.

The fifth inning they went up on us three runs, and after that we returned scored one run. The following inning they added another run to the board then we struck back with a run. At that point the last inning came and we got three outs on them and we came fixing to make something happen. Our first runner got on base with a walk then the following hitter hit it into a double play. At that point our next runner gets on base with a single, and I come up and get a three-two count and I battle off another strike, then I see a curveball off the pitchers hand and I swing as hard as I could. At that point, "bam" went the ball down the first base line to the fence. Our lead runner comes in for a score and as im passing second I look back to where the ball was and the ball was getting thrown in. Sliding into third I hear the third baseman catch the ball, in a split second I slide off the base and he puts a tag on me for the ball game.
Losing the game for our game must have been one of the most terrible feelings ever. I was so devastated for some time, yet I realized that I needed to get over it and use it as inspiration. Ever since then I’ve trained so hard to get back to state and redeem
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Major League Baseball, much like the majority of other American institutions, was racially segregated. A color barrier was implemented during baseball’s infancy in order to separate people of different race to cater to the white American players. The color barrier was an unofficial “rule” that hindered those with dark skin from playing baseball for Major League teams. The color barrier was enforced by preventing any teams with a colored player from competing at the professional level. Many team owners, umpires, and players justified their opposition to allowing blacks to play by declaring that only whites could uphold the "gentlemanly character" of professional baseball. Others argued that excluding blacks would prevent future racial resentment between the ethnicities, as players of different races would be competing for the same job opportunities.
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. Throughout the 1920's, sports grew rapidly and was also known as a transition period. Baseball was also known as Americas pass time. Sports had large amateur events that caught the eye of promoters who could see an opportunity to capitalize and make money. "The momentum these sports built up in the 1920's has ensured that these sports have endured in popularity to the present day."(Scott) Because of the great players of the 20's , many athletes are often compared back to the originals. The sport stars of this era remain well known today. Baseball was a huge part of the evolution of sports in the 20's between the Negro National League, the death of Ray chapman, Lou Gehrig, and one of the greatest baseball players known to man, Babe Ruth.
As a kid, I was born and raised to love the great game of baseball. Many young kids have had dreams to become professional athletes, and achieve prestigious awards/ titles. Like many kids I’ve always dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. As a younger kid with my head in the clouds, I never really knew what it was like to put my actual blood, sweat, and tears into something I loved, until my worst season I had ever played. This whole story starts in the beginning of my ninth grade baseball season. It started out different from every other year because, of course I was a freshman. I chose this piece because it’s the beginning, the reason why baseball got started. Also because I am learning about a sport that began so early and evolved into a major league sport. Many people find baseball can be boring because it is so long, its nine innings and that can last a while. The way the sport is, it is set up in a way that when your favorite team is winning, you tend to forget about how long the actual game is. This first inning takes place as early as the 1800’s and going into the 1900’s, explaining who started baseball. One interesting fact that I took heed to be the fact that baseball was not called “baseball”, it was actually called “base”, the game of ball.

Baseball has been in my life since I was a little boy. I've been playing since I could walk and haven't missed a season yet. I've been to many minor league games that are not professional but players in these leagues can become professional over time. I feel as if I am very capable of going far with it. I'd like to play all the way throughout college and hope I get noticed by a scout. Once I'm done with college if I haven't been drafted into the MLB then I'd probably try to play for the minor leagues in hopes of being noticed there. Ultimately my dream is to be drafted into the MLB and play professional baseball.

Baseball began during the civil war by a man named Abner Doubleday in New York. Baseball is very near and dear to my heart, but I am convinced that people do not think baseball is very hard. As many of us know, there are nine people on the field at one time, you field a baseball and throw it to bases, and you have to learn how to vocal. Those are just parts of the game, but the hardest part of the game is hitting. The most important parts of hitting involves impeccable timing, with very good hands.
With seconds to spare I arrived at batting practice and began to prepare for my game. I hear coach call out my name and as I he acknowledged that I was there he told me I was pitching. My brain shifted and went into a whole new mode, I was more focused and more determined than I have ever been. This was the biggest baseball game of my career and I 'm starting on the mound. Honestly it couldn 't have turned out any better, the fate of the pin and my team lied in my hands and I loved the pressure. The pressure made me thrive and before I knew it our team was marching onto the field for the national anthem. During the singing of the national anthem I peeked into the crowd and first row down the first base side was the little boy I met on the cart and his dad sitting right next to him. This game was for that little boy, I needed to impress him. I pitched six strong innings and my team ended up winning the game. It was the most exciting game of my career and the best part was being greeted with the best pin in the tournament after such a spectacular win. The little boy ran out into the middle of the field where we shook our opponents hands and in front of everyone in the stadium handed me the only thing I cared about besides winning. I was in the best mood for the rest of the day and I rewarded myself with a nice long sleep. I could only image what the next day had to
To this day, this game haunts me and sometimes I find it hard to sleep at night because I am too busy thinking of what should have been. Looking back, the way to describe the ending to my senior season is disappointment; not only in myself, but in my entire team. Being the only senior it felt like more of betrayal than anything. It felt like my teammates knew they had more than a second chance to redeem themselves so they were not as heartbroken and sympathetic towards the loss and towards
Everybody values and views sports in different ways. Most athletes believe that the sport they excel in is the easiest and the best to play. Most baseball players believe that baseball is not the easiest sport to play, even if they excel in baseball. Baseball has a 282 page rule book, but other sports like football only have 82 pages of rules to follow. Baseball is unique because it is the only sport where the defense controls the ball, and where doing good on offense thirty percent of the time is considered good.
A year later, I was again chosen for the team. This time, I worked my way from being a back-up catcher to the starting 3rd baseman in two weeks. But after going 0-2 in my first two at-bats, my coach took me out of the starting line-up. Again, I pinch-hit, and was very successful at it. I even hit what turned out to be a game-winning homerun. We later reached the championship game again, but we lost it for the second time. This time I was more frustrated than I could ever remember being. I was slamming my hand into walls and almost crying. I was really acting very childish.
Many people don't understand the point in playing baseball. Why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they started before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure. Well, I play baseball because of the love I have for the sport, and because of the feeling that overwhelms me every time I walk onto a baseball field. When I walk onto a field I am given the desire to better myself not only as an athlete, but also as a person. The thoughts and feelings I get drive me to work hard towards my goals and to be a better person. The most relevant example of these feelings is when I stepped on the field at Runyon Complex in Pueblo, Colorado during our high school state playoffs in 2003. This baseball field will always be an important place to me.
