Personal Narrative: My Experience With Writing In College

Writing in college can be very intimidating. Every teacher that you have has a different style and way that they would like you to write and present your essay. I never thought I was a good writer until last semester when I met my English 098 teacher. She showed me that I did have pretty good writing skills for being out of school for thirteen years. I had been waiting for an essay to be assigned to us. But, by the second or third week, we had not got an assignment. A month passes by and we finally got our first assignment that I had been dreading. It was for an essay. I was nervous because I had not wrote a paper in thirteen years. I didn’t even know where to start when it came to writing an essay. It was like my brain just shut down and said nope you’re not going to do this and I almost completely shut down mentally. But, there was this girl in my class that I had made friends with and we had became very close. So, I decided to ask her for some help since she had just got out of high school and hadn’t had time to forget how to brainstorm, make an outline, and form an essay. She immediately said ok let’s do this and she helped me out. She started asking me different questions to get the feel of what my opinions were and what interested me. As I was telling here she wrote them down. We made a pros and cons list for each idea so that we could narrow the ideas down to three. I took those ideas to Dr. Evans and she helped me chose the right topic from those three ideas that I would do well in writing and explaining.
