I acquired my first part-time job as a sales associate for PUMA Sportswear in Richmond, Vancouver in grade 11. Although I received a minimum wage, the challenges I encountered, difficulties I overcame, and lessons I learned are far more valuable than the income. The first challenge I had to deal with was to balance my student life and work. I was scheduled to work usually during irregular hours, ranging from the early shift before my school to the late-night shift. Therefore, I needed to fit random hours of work into my tight schedule with academic studies and extracurricular activities, a tremendous challenge for me, especially during my exam periods. I asked my co-worker, a university student, about how to be well-organized and motivated.

This statement is true because if these activities continue to impede the learning of a student then he or she will get stressed out, which could result in the student dropping all his or her college classes. If the student could just sit back and analyze the situation, life would be easier. For example, the student could reduce the number of classes he or she takes every semester. Reducing the amount of classes could result in more time spending with family rather than doing homework. When thinking of a person whose life is filled with frustrating duties and activities remember a nontraditional college students’ schedule of completing activities of school, working long hours, completing personal activities, and trying to spend free time with family and friends all in one day.
In fact, “a determined student, even encountering hardships in his/her life while attending college full time, will succeed” (Culpepper 330). Also, many professionals successfully graduated college while dealing with hardships such as “raising children alone, working in multiple jobs, and caring for sick relatives” (Culpepper 330). They showed commitment by staying focused on what they wanted to achieve in their lives. An overloaded student accomplishes his/her tasks by organizing his/her daily schedule, not allowing more than one activity developing in the same hour. Also, the student has to allow for himself/herself recreational time as a reward, for that will balance his/her overwhelmed lifestyle.

Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.
A summer or part-time job pays more than money. Even though the money earned is important, the work experience gained has a greater long-term value when one applies for a full-time job after graduation from school. Job application documents (the application blank and the personal data sheet) ask you to list jobs you have held and to list as references the names of individuals who supervised your work. Throughout my life the lessons I learned from watching my parents have stuck with me. I worked throughout my entire college career, and my junior and senior year I worked full time, not because I needed to but because that is what I wanted to do. I have a very hard time staying idle. I rarely sit still for longer than a couple hours. Today I work full time, go to graduate school part-time and volunteer a 20-30 hours a week for a dog rescue.
In the light of my junior year summer, I was stuck shuffling through unemployment after being laid-off my sales position at Traffic shoes in order to offer a full-time position to one of the other seasonal employees. Following suit came a desperate search for employment opportunities, which ended when I was finally secured a position as a team member at my local Dunkin Donuts.

The solution for students can be as easy as sticking to a goal or as hard as denying themselves a prize when they missed the deadline on a project. The type of solution a person uses depends on what works best for that student, but a schedule to help stay goal positioned never hurt.

As far back as I could remember, I was always in a rush to grow up and be responsible. I was about thirteen when I realized I wanted a job, so I could have my own money. I’d even fill out applications online, lying about my age but it never worked. A few birthdays went by and I was celebrating my sixteenth birthday and a few weeks later; I received my first retail job. My very first job was at a popular teen store called Aeropostale. I learned and experienced a lot working there and made friends as well. Although, I got what I desired, I often had uncertainties once I really got the feel for the part-time position. In life, people leave and things change and by the end of my employment, I would soon look back and realize it.
Time management is one of the most crucial factors to college success for every student in college. Firstly, while living on campus, time usually isn’t an issue to students because they live on school grounds. There are many advantages that come with time and one of them is getting to class on time. However, this is actually the opposite for commuters because getting to class on time is quite a struggle. They have to struggle to wake up earlier than usual in order to use the public transportation. Students living on campus also have more access to on-site facilities because they don’t have to worry about going home so there is no time limit on how long they occupy these areas. An example is staying in the library because this is where you can get help from tutors on subjects you are struggling with. Also, they can use the writing center for as long as it is open without worrying about time. Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare. The normal college student on the other hand is constantly on the go. College students have busy schedules that include working, studying, and socializing.
Working a job while in college can give a student great time management skills. The years of work experience can also lead the student to being successful to getting another job and having good business skills. Research has shown that working less than 20 hours can actually help give a student an edge in college when compared to a student who does not work at all. I was only seventeen when I started working. I live in a very small city that is downtown full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season.
