Personal Narrative: Kobe Bryant

Sports fanatics tend to have one dream and it is to meet their favorite player. My dream came true on November 08, 2000, when for the first time I meet Kobe Bryant. I was so ecstatic about it that I could not speak. That day he gave me the greatest gift: he autographed my basketball and shoes, which is to this day my greatest treasure.
As kids we always tend to be carefree about everything that surrounds us because we do not cherish it. Growing up I only cared about how dirty my shoes got when I played basketball. That changed fairly quickly, when I began to idolize Kobe Bryant. When I first heard about Kobe I knew I wanted to meet him, and my mother made that dream come true when I was eight. When she signed me up for his basketball clinic, I was so stoked and excited because I was finally going to meet Kobe. Arriving at the venue, I was able to meet the whole team, although my only interest was the god himself. Kobe was sitting at the end of the table. They are still in the safe, they do not come out unless they are being cleaned or I am admiring them. My mother is my treasure’s keeper; I rarely let anyone else see them. My family thinks that I am insane about how protective I am for a pair of shoes and a ball, but they just don’t understand how much they means to me. They are not just materialistic things to me. Not too long ago one of my cousins suggested I sell them, and before I could respond my mother said, “No way is she selling them, they have so much sentimental value.” My mother helped realize that a big part of my childhood lies within that ball and those shoes. Although the shoes and the ball mean the world to me, I also notice that they mean something to my mom. To my mother those objects represent my happiness and who I was and wanted to become as a child. This is why, if I were to ever leave home my mother would still be my treasure’s
