Personal Narrative: How Music Changed My Life

As I have matured into the girl that I am today, I have grown in and out of many interests. When I was around the age of eleven I was obsessed with sports. I was outside every day during the summer playing anything from basketball, to hockey. I was captivated by the competitiveness, and I loved to win. Around the age of thirteen I became interested with makeup and other really boring, girly stuff. However, the one interest that has shaped me into the person I am today is my love and appreciation for music. I have never been an outgoing, and empathetic person. Growing up, I kept to myself in a majority of the situations I was put in. As I began high school I started to notice how much of a truly lonely person I was. Sadness, withdrawal, and alienation are just a few words to describe how I began my teenage years feeling. This all changed when I went to my first concert, which just happened to be Austin City Limits music festival. These songs, the way the lyrics, harmonies, and music all fit together to make me forgot all of my problems. I began to use my free time to create a different playlist for every possible emotion I could possibly be feeling. When I feel like nothing in the world can stop me, I blast the Eagles greatest hits out of my jeep window. When I feel like everything in this earth is out to get me, I play my emotional country music role models. From George Strait, to Tim Mcgraw, to Faith Hill, to Garth Brooks, these songs have dragged me out of the deepest holes I ever fell into. Instead of lashing out on the world whenever life does not go my way, I choose to shut the world out and listen to Frank Sinatra, Mumford and Sons, Coldplay, and pretty much anyone else who had anything positive to say to
