Becoming a single mother, shortly before my son turned two-years-old, was life altering. Moving back in with my family, realizing I had no income, and no longer the team effort from his father, was an indescribable sense of failure as a parent. Obtaining my masters degree in Health Care Leadership from the University of Denver is my way to correct that, and properly fulfill my role and obligations of being a single mother to a remarkable little five-year-old. When I was 11 I watched my mother abruptly become a single parent responsible for four daughters, two of which were still in diapers. I became the full time babysitter and raised my two younger sisters for years, despite being a child myself, while my mom worked several jobs at a time. …show more content…

Aside from school I have always been active within my community mainly through youth sports. I have been a volunteer coach for over 8 years now and have managed to juggle coaching throughout my time in college. I coach at Arvada High School, where I am also a tutor for several of their student athletes, as well as through the APEX where I coach youth flag football in the Fall and Spring for kids aged 4-6, and basketball in the winter. My dedication to improving my life and circumstances is unwavering; however being a mother is still my number one priority. I love kids, and want to become a solid role model for not only my son, but also for my younger sisters as well as the numerous children whom call me coach. I have always possessed the compassion needed to excel in this field, and when you supplement it with my determination to prosper for my son, my capabilities to excel in academics, along with the passion that grows exceedingly as I further my knowledge of our health care system- allows me to confidently say I will become a leader within the health care
