America- What comes to mind when that name rings through your head? Freedom? Religion? Humanity? What comes to my mind when I think of America are the national heroes- the people who work hard and make sacrifices in order to build upon this country for our good. A lot of people like us take the great country that we live in and the freedoms that it possesses for granted. Most don’t realize that other countries don’t have the freedoms that we have every day. Stores filled with goods, police men and women keeping our communities safe and well-protected, and great, leading Polititions administrating and leading our country. These are the reasons that our county prospers, that our county is the land of the free and the brave. As John F. In the year of 2013, my dad was called to deploy, along with his squadron, to go to war in the Middle East. Even though it was three years ago, I still remember it vividly. My dad had gone off to the squadron to prepare, and my mom was in the playroom, trying to console me, for I was crying so much. When your dad leaves to go to war, it’s a big deal. Anyway, we eventually rode out onto the taxi way, where we watched the jets take off. They looked so much more powerfull now that there was such reason behind them. After we went back home to go to sleep, my mom woke us up and we heard the jets flying off to war, and they sounded so powerful. “That is the sound of freedom”, my mom had said. America. It was a dream come true in a New World that was envisioned by artists, politicians, and monarchs alike. The ones who believed that anything could be achieved by God, the mind, and manpower. Even through opposition from governments, kingdoms, nobles, and naysayers, these brave individuals strived to establish a better life for themselves and their families, aimed to retain a secure future in the process, and wanted to worship God in their own way.
Every day of my life I have woken up to the sound of Reveille, and gone to bed listening to Taps. I have moved nine different times, know the feeling of having my dad deploy more than four times, and eating Thanksgiving dinner in a DEFAC is second-nature to me. Being an army child is a huge part of my life, however it does not define who I am; it has shaped how I view the world. Because of my life as a military child, I have determined that I am compelled to positively influence how others view life.
A person that has earned the title of veteran is an American Hero, simple as that. The top three qualities that stand out to me when reflecting on veterans are selflessness, courage, and commitment. I come from a long line of military veterans on all sides of my family. Writing this essay is very easy when I think about those family members. However, the most important point of this essay is to address how ALL Americans should recognize our veterans as being our real life super heroes. What they do for us as civilians is, in my opinion, the definition of heroism. Veterans don’t stop giving of themselves when their service is done. The AMVETS and other veteran organizations continue to give back by volunteering, helping those in need, and of course, providing scholarship opportunities like this one.
The first word I think of when someone says America is Freedom. Freedom is very important to this country. A majority of the people here either came here or are here for freedom. It’s through these images and power attached to words and amazing propaganda that gets youth to dive into the world of war with the Marines. The ad under analysis, tells the recruit they will get to “walk with honor”, “command with resolve” and “take your place among the most elite warriors on earth”. They get to ‘take their place’, saying it as though they already have their place, as if the place is waiting for them. The ad also highlights the that the Marines are the more elite warriors on earth, the word warrior itself is captivating. Warriors are seen as the best of the best when it comes to fighting, adding on to the that the elite warriors, projects a view of the ultimate, best fighters there could ever be – and for a lot of people, that is beyond exciting. The ad is also illuminating the fact that they will ‘command with resolve’, meaning they will become firm and determined as a leader. The Marines will give them the skillset and knowledge to be able to command and hold people’s lives in their hands by training and lead them into battles – even though that word is not touched upon in any advertisement. My teacher and classmates were shocked. I was the little girl that spoke no English, that stood in class every day hearing "God Bless America." At the age of three, I could not utter one word; however, through time, I felt a sense of confidence on that day. When the teacher prompted the class to begin, I raised my hand and said, "Teacher, me. I want to sing," and as a director, I led the class in our morning routine. My teacher beamed with joy when she told my mother about my day.
