On the outskirts of a big, bustling city was a small town. It was a cheerful little town, full of blossoming flowers and cheerful wildlife. The people in this town had not been to the city, for it was too far and very different from their simple lifestyle. Every morning, they would get up and go through their daily routine, with no worries. They fended for each other and all was well.
One day,the town’s peaceful routine was disturbed.Word spread of an odd man from the city who walked from house to house asking to stay as a guest.One by one, he was sent off with glares, snide remarks, and rude gestures.This was because the man was different than the rest of the townsfolk. No one ever went out of their way to talk to the man, and walked by as if he wasn’t there. The man appeared to be busy with the peculiar mixtures and concoctions he had brought.A couple weeks later, a curious little boy went up to the man and asked if he wanted to play a game. The man smiled and agreed to play with the boy, and the two spent the afternoon laughing and running around. When the little boy had to go home, the man was grinning because he had found a friend in a place that was wary of him. However, the man was surprised that the little boy had not come to play the next day or the next or the next. He saw so many different looking people, and was overwhelmed with diversity and culture. There were so many people doing various activities that made them seem like aliens from another planet. People with different skin colors, languages, and styles surrounded him. The boy noticed how busy and unorganized everyone was. Yet, they all appeared to be happy, even in their chaotic city. After somewhat comprehending all the mayhem, the boy asked around for the man.The boy heard that he was the greatest doctor in the nation, and he was very respected and revered. When the boy told the city folk his identity, they immediately gave the boy a note that the man had written for the boy explaining that he couldn’t live in such an unwelcoming place.. The note thanked the boy for his companionship and friendliness and told him that he would come back when the town was more accepting. The boy then realized how flawed his town was. The city and the man awakened him and made him realize that different doesn’t necessarily mean unpleasant.Maybe he could persuade the townspeople to become more accepting of people’s variances. But the boy knew it would be nearly impossible for his town to change its conservative ways. So he left the city with a sorrowful heart, to continue his simple lifestyle in his simple
