I arrived and found the victim, Kenneth Kirby, identified by his California identification card, and the suspect, Christine Wakefield, also identified by her California identification card, both standing in the front yard. Wakefield was crying, and I could see that her right cheek appeared to be swollen. Kirby was visibly upset and had swelling and a cut over his left eye. He also appeared to have a bloody nose. I asked Wakefield to step back and wait over by the house, but she told me, "I called you." I told her I would talk to her in a second and again told her to wait over by the house. Wakefield complied and I directed my attention to Kirby who was now moving toward the street. I told him to sit on the curb, but he instead said he wanted to sit on the bed of his truck. I did not want Kirby to have access to any potential weapons so I directed him again to sit down. Kirby complied and I had Deputy Paulson #2022 wait with Kirby while I spoke to Wakefield. She claimed they were drinking tonight at a bar, and when they came home, they argued but she could not remember what they argued about. Without warning during the argument, Kirby hit her in the face. Wakefield did not know how many times Kirby hit her, what else might have happened during the fight, and denied hitting Kirby. Her answer to my questions was, "I don't remember." While speaking to Wakefield, I noticed she had a cut on her lip and swelling to her right cheek. She also appeared to have a scrape on her right
