Personal Essay: Music Analysis

Music is the element that empowers and motivates me. When I was in kindergarten, I was exposed to a song on TV that was lively and something to dance to. It was SOS by Rihanna. From that point, a sense of musical knowledge developed in my childhood and I gained a strong passion into researching different types of music. I had no education in playing an instrument, so any types of music I heard interested me. At the age of 6, my mother had enrolled me in my first piano lesson, since I wanted to learn the deeper meanings of music. My teacher started off teaching me how to play simple classical Beethoven and Mozart songs. As I kept practicing, I researched more advanced classical masterpieces on YouTube and felt that my mind was devoted into sounds of elegance and peace ringing from a piano, accompanied by an orchestra. I especially appreciated the artificial chord sounds and drum beats, accompanied by a reverb singing voice, and up to this day, I finally believe that electronic dance music is my type of music genre. Soon during my freshman year, I looked up numerous electronic music artists, such as Hardwell, Krewella, and Borgeous. Although these electronic music artists were my favorite, I would still, once in a while, turn on some classical piano songs to calm down after a fun vacation with friends or relieve stress after a long day. As much as electronic music makes me stay motivated to complete daily tasks, classical pieces still, and always will matter in my life for necessary essentials, such as studying for a class and for self-meditation. Also, even though I completely gave up on the 20th century music covers on the piano and violin, I continue arranging my own variation of an electronic music or an intermediate classical song that can be played on both the piano and
