Guns Are a Big Responsibility I do not like guns, they frighten me. A gun is life changing when a person has one in his or her possession. Owning a gun takes a good deal of responsibility, especially if an individual has children in the home. First the gun needs to be in a secure place with extra precautions considered. Second when purchasing a gun the person needs to make sure he or she is able to operate the gun safely. Third and lastly the gun owner and family should be educated on handling and dangers involved in having a gun in the house. Many gun owners who do not know how to use a gun can accidentally shoot themselves or others. I feel like a gun takes on a big role in a person’s life, because of the effect that it can have if used intentionally or accidentally. Guns have always been in my life growing up that I never put much thought to having a gun in the house. My father was an avid hunter, so we always had a gun in the house. According to data from the Mayo Clinic trauma registry, 58 patients, all male, were admitted for hunting injuries between 2010 and 2015. Many had self-inflicted gunshot wound (Mayoclinic.org). A gun owner should be required to take a safety class, so that he or she may learn how to safely handle a gun and the malfunctions that can come with using the gun. A safety class should be part of the gun buying process. If a person learns how to handle a gun then, there would probably be less accidental shootings. I believe that a gun purchaser should know and realize how a gun can end a life. That it is a big deal to know that when using a gun the shooter should mentally prepared with the psychological effect of using the gun.
