Hillary Chute's article, "The Texture of Retracing In Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis", is graphic narrative that talks about Marjane's Satrapi the trauma she both faced and witnessed as a child in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, by reading this graphic narrative, she used black and white theme to describe the difficult events happened during of Islamic revelation against Political opposition of revelation. Through her childhood Memory, she captured the idea of torture has been using in the time revolution just finished, and focusing more in feminist voice, showing the struggles of a young girl who tries to rebel against the regime, her inside conflicts as she matures against the vile. She sees herself as the last prophet—even though supporting the idea of social equality, aid for the weak, and the end of suffering of Iranian people during the war. The Revolution, which many Iranians supported because they wanted freedom, ended up bringing to power a regime of conservative religious who saw modern Western-style culture is against Islam. Moreover, by the law, they regulated all behavior seen as Western, such as American music or clothing. Further, Persepolis shows how things became more religious under the Islamic Republic, the government's attempts to force their religious practices cause Marjane and others to lose their personal religions. After the execution of her uncle Anoosh at the hands of the Revolutionaries, Marjane asked God to leave her and disappears from the graphic novel. The symbolic key, given to the poorer boys of Iran, represents their guaranteed entry to heaven if they are to die as soldiers in the Iraq-Iran War.
