Rick Riordan’s fantasy novel, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Last Olympian, Percy and Camp Half-Blood prepare for the war against Kronos and his army, while the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon. Kronos and his army advance towards New York City, where Mount Olympus stands, unguarded. Camp Half-Blood’s young group of demigods fight to stop Kronos’ army while Percy, Annabeth, and Grover stop Kronos from taking control of Luke Castellan’s body and destroying the city. One lesson from this novel is to never give up on friends or family because they will always have their family’s back. Family is an important concept. Kronos knocked away Percy’s sword and was about to kill him when Annabeth caught the strike on her dagger hilt. Annabeth speaks to Luke and reminds him about family. “Kronos loomed over Annabeth, his sword raised. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. She croaked, ‘Family, Luke. You promised.’I took a painful step forward. Grover was back on his feet, over by the throne of Hera, but he seemed to be struggling to move as well. Before either of us could get anywhere close to Annabeth, Kronos staggered. He stared at the knife in Annabeth’s hand, the blood on her face. ‘Promise.’ Then he gasped like he couldn’t get air. ‘Annabeth…’ But it wasn’t the Titan’s voice.It was Luke’s.” (334) Annabeth reminded Luke of his promise of family, which brought him back. Luke then asked for Annabeth’s blade so he could stab his Achilles’ heel.
