Paul Theroux articulated the differences the world places between the male and female genders. Men are always looked upon as the superior gender in the sports world, newspapers, and articles. From the early ages of this planet women were always put down under men. In the 21st century, we give women more attention and rights, but there are still some people that are against the term “feminism”. Paul Theroux states that “has always hated being a man, the whole idea of manhood in America is pitiful, in my opinion”. Paul is a man and saying this shows that we still have gender differences and opportunities. Men are put on top of women in every category possible. Men’s traits are expressed more to show toughness, but now even women part has taken into the army. Paul highlights the fact that “the manly attitude towards sports seems to be little more than a recipe for creating bad marriages, social misfits, moral degenerates, sadists, latent rapists and just plain lout”. He is emphasizing men are always mentioned in the sports world and known for their accolades but when are women ever recognized for their accomplishments. Starting from the youth they are thought to be tough and have manliness features and not to express emotions. However women always express their emotions, whereas men hold their pain and uncertainty within themselves. Paul Theroux never got involved with the real world because he knew it was cruel. He is a feminist and did not want to go up against an army full of anti-feminists. Paul questions how can one think about men without considering the terrible ambition of manliness?
