Paul Revere, one of the hero’s of the American Revolution, was born in Boston in late 1734. We don’t know the exact day he was born, but we do know he was baptized January 1, 1735. In childhood, Paul dressed like all the other boys with shirts with big sleeves and pants that stopped just below the knees. Boys wore knee buckles to keep their pant legs tight, and it also helped keep their stockings up. When Paul wasn’t doing chores he would play with his siblings, go to church, and spend time in his father’s shop. Paul’s dad, Mr.Revere, was a silversmith and goldsmith and he made all sorts of things like teapots,sugar bowls, trays, jewelry, shoe buckles, and thimbles. Besides helping his father, Paul went to school at the North Grammar School to learn to read and other basics. When Paul was thirteen, he became his father’s apprentice and he had to keep the shop clean and other simple tasks. As Paul grew older he learned how to make a teapot. A large group crowded around the smaller group of British soldiers. The soldiers claimed to have heard - fire but someone may have shouted “ Do not fire!” In just seconds 10 bostonist fell. Five were wounded and five were killed. Bells rang just as the shots were fired. Paul Revere grabbed his coat and ran down the street and saw the British soldiers with their mustucks still smoking.
