Frederick Jackson Turner and Patricia Nelson Limerick are two historians that had two different points of views to define the West and its history. The West usually refers to the present-day states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana ( Patricia Nelson, p.8).
