Path-goal approach to leadership by House (1971) mentions that the roles of a leader involve primarily increasing individual rewards of followers to gain goal fulfillment and make the path to rewards seamless by clarifying, removing roadblocks and increasing followers opportunities for satisfaction (Dessler & Valenzi, 1977). The theory, which primarily feeds off motivation, has conquered as an acceptably rational explanation for an individual decision-making process. The days when organizations were able to function and prosper based on their product, service, or structural innovations are no longer sufficient to keep them afloat. It is based on the shared attitudes, beliefs, and customs of written and unwritten rules that have been developed over time; how employees follow the unwritten rules and traditions the norms that keep the organization moving forward (Malik, 2012). Organizational culture is when employees feel they are a part of the organization and take ownership in their organization without being asked to do so (Polston-Murdoch, (2103). Taking the time to ask a fellow coworker if they need help with anything once they are complete with their work is a great example of taking owner ship and belonging. Many organizations have developed written statements known as Mission and vision statements, which support employee performance and motivation strengthening the organizations culture and helping reach goals. Some organizations promote high performance restructuring by dedicating the introduction of a team approach to work structuring, and high skill variety and feedback on performance, which results in job characteristics and improved satisfaction. Organizations nowadays are forced to pay extra attention to their employees’ needs and customers’ needs by means of employee recognition, goal alignment and work force engagement. For teams to be engaged and effective, members must feel appreciated, and believe in their leaders (Dixion & Hart, 2010). Organizational culture obtained with Path-goal theory is equivalently important because appropriate culture is required to sustain or facilitate established high performance efforts.
