Good parenting remains to be the primary challenge most parents do face in the world today. Whether you are a first-time parent or you already been in the parenting world for quite sometimes, every day new challenging issues keep coming your way as a parent that require much of your attention. Every day parents face a lot of challenges regarding their children as they cruise on with the business of parenting. So far there is no formula to good parenting, but a parent or guardian should wake up every morning bearing in mind that they need to be ready to face the daily challenges of parenting that may come their way because they keep on changing on regular bases. Once a parent gets a kid for the first time his or her biggest worry is that what the parent will do to keep the child busy during his or her leisure time once the kid is of age that is the teenage years. The adolescent years for any kid are very challenging because this is the moment the child is more active in life and the urge to try anything new as their peers do keep growing stronger. The only parenting style parents should adopt to counter this dilemma is to try and enroll their children in part time jobs and activities. This is a perfect remedy for the young teenagers to stay away from alcohol and drugs and joining criminal gangs because they are always engaged and occupied. Furthermore, the skills students they acquire during their engagement in part-time activities and part-time jobs will be of great use in their near future and cultivate in creating a whole rounded individual that is of great importance to the modern society (Amitai, 149)
In conclusion, the parenting styles discussed above are not the only ones that are known, but there are so many parenting styles parents choose to adapt to undertake their responsibility of parenting with care and caution. Good parenting can only be measured on how well behaved and the admirable the characters of the children are. Young parents, out there should always be on the lookout to devise ways of handling their children whenever anything critical comes on
Parenting styles play an huge role in the development of a child. In fact, research has shown that parenting styles can influence a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological growth. Which affects children both in the childhood years, and as an adult. So this brings up the question what is the best parenting styles. I will be talking about some different parenting styles and how I feel about them.
Parenting style is considered as one of the key factors for children’s early development (Nam & Chung, 2014) and it is defined as the parents’ perceivable attitudes and behaviour towards the child (Darling & Steinberg, 1993). There are three styles of parenting according to Baumrind (1968); authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive. Then Maccoby and Martin (1983) added neglectful parenting as the fourth parenting style. These styles involved two parenting strategies: parental responsiveness and demandingness. Parenting styles refer to a set of different manners in which parents raise their children. There are four parenting styles including authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. The authoritarian parenting style is based on the implementation of rules, and on the idea that all rules should be followed without exceptions. Similarly, authoritative parenting style implements rules, but the child feelings are taken in consideration and reasonable exceptions to the rule are allowed. On the other hand, in permissive parenting style, there is implementation of rules, but they are rarely encouraged to be followed. Parents and their parenting style play an important role in the development of their child. In fact, many child experts suggest that parenting style can affect a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological development which influence not just their childhood years, but it will also extend throughout their adult life. This is because a child’s development takes place through a number of stimuli, interaction, and exchanges that surround him or her. And since parents are generally a fixed presence in a child’s life, they will likely have a significant part on the child’s positive or negative development (Gur 25).
Diana Baumrind, a developmental psychologist, was the first psychologist to identify parenting styles in 1967. The three parenting styles are authoritative, authoritarian and permissive. At one time, these three were the only parenting styles but later on, uninvolved parenting was added to the list of parenting styles. The four parenting styles are described on how much love, rules and the child’s behavior. Looking back to my childhood, I can see how all the parents showed the different parenting styles, including my parents.
A parent’s parenting styles are as diverse as the world we live in today. Nowadays, parents only want what is best for their children and their parenting styles plays a crucial role in the development of children which will in the long run, not only effect the child’s childhood years, but later prolong into their adult life as well.

These practices are stemmed from historical and cultural traditions that are passed from one generation to another. Pregnancy, child-rearing, and parenting techniques between black and white people are significantly affected by various social and economic factors.

Diana Baumrind’s theory on parenting was defined by four different types. The types are, authoritative style, authoritarian style, permissive style, and uninvolved style. My parents have an authoritative style. Authoritative is when the parents give certain limits and restrictions but keep it to a minimum and are usually pretty reasonable, providing reasoning for their decisions. This type of parenting style expresses tenderness and warmth. When the rules come into conflict with something, authoritative parents bend the rule more often than other types of parents.
A parent is not only the loving mother who holds you close to her for nine months and then many years, or the dad who plays baseball with you and intimidates his daughter’s dates. As years pass so do generations and media changes very constantly and plays a factor in how children act and respond to certain stimuli. There was a study done in 2009 and people in Poughkeepsie had answered a poll that revealed overall every age group finds it harder to raise a child in today’s day and age than it had been in previous generations, but the older the parent is, the longer the generation gap would be and that factors in the difficulty of understanding how media works with a child’s psychological set up. With over three hundred million Americans and over six billion people worldwide parenting skills are essential to maintain a healthy society. Parenting involves many aspects and requires many skills. It is a time to nurture, instruct, and correct to develop fundamental skills children will need to be mature, responsible, and contributing adults to a society.
