n this movie, the main protagonist, Carl Fredrickson, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, attempts to fulfill his lifelong dream of reaching Paradise Falls by tying thousands of balloons to his house. The movie take place in a contemporary time, and the setting starts in an urban environment and shifts into the South American wilderness. The movie starts off by introducing Carl Fredricksen, a young 8-year-old boy obsessed with adventure and who admires the famous explorer Charles Muntz. Muntz has been accused of making up a discovery of a giant bird he discovered at Paradise Falls, a remote location in South America. Carl soon meets a fellow adventure loving girl named Ellie, who he eventually marries. After suffering a miscarriage, the couple decide to visit Paradise Falls. They attempt to save enough money to fulfill their dream, and when an elderly Carl finally arranges the trip, Ellie becomes ill and dies. …show more content…

In defiance, Carl ties thousands of balloons to his house and floats away in pursuit of Paradise Falls.
