Oxycodone Should Be Banned Essay

Although oxycodone relieves pain, it is an addictive drug that causes major harm to the brain, and body and affects individuals life’s as well as the economy. The problems that this drug causes outweighs its benefits. I believe this drug should be banned from the medicine market due to the damages it has caused over the years. Oxycodone is a prescribed legal drug used to relieve moderate to severe pain following surgery and can also be used to treat pain in cancer patients (“Oxycodone”). Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid; it is obtained from thebaine an alkaloid found in opium and it is created in laboratories (“Oxycodone”). Its pain chemical structure is close to codeine but has pain relieving properties like morphine with less side effects (“Oxycodone”) . It was first developed in Germany in 1917 in hopes to improve the opioids that already existed since a year before they stopped the production of heroin

They believe that this will solve their problems so they repeat it several times in hopes of escaping reality this is psychological dependence. They basically depend on oxycodone to live a normal life. This drug sometimes motivates them to do everyday activities. They even forget how it feels to live without the drug in their system.

Oxycodone has mental and psychological effects that are negative.Their symptoms have to do with emotions and feelings while taking the drug such as pleasure, relief and happiness (“Oxycodone”). It also has to do with the emotions and feelings they have while not taking it like anxiety or not feeling satisfied (“Oxycodone”).

After becoming addicted to oxycodone and taking it various of time people begin to have tolerance they no longer feel nothing making them take larger amounts of oxycodone due to becoming accustomed (“Oxycodone”).
