“Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare is a play about two lovers from different families that have an internal feud between them. It ends in both lovers, Romeo and Juliet, committing suicide as they could not openly live with each other. An important idea in this play is that of the impetuosity of youth and the rash decisions that young people may make. This idea is continuously brought up throughout the play and is explored through the concepts of overreacting and being blinded by anger, desperation in forbidden love and taking your life for love.
Firstly, the concept of overreacting and being blinded by anger. This concept is shown through the character of Romeo who is at often times an irrational and impulsive thinker. When one of his close friends,

Romeo did not think ahead when his rage consumed him and as a result of this, he could not openly admit his marriage to the public and his family. Before Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo stated to Tybalt “I do protest I never injured thee. But love thee better than thou canst devise.” This means, at first, Romeo said to Tybalt that he loved him for an unknown reason but after hearing the news that Mercutio and Tybalt fought and Mercutio had passed away, his rationality was forgotten. Before commencing another fight, Romeo says “And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!” This means that he has forgotten about his “love” for Tybalt and instead decides to fight him to the death without any consideration for his marriage’s future. This clearly shows his impetuosity and sudden changes of heart within the play dn this same concept of overreacting when angry can be related t to.An example of how this shown ina modern say setting is overreacting when faced with diiffficult news, this can be taken in may eays but most commonly with anger or frustration. This concept is often feared when breaking hard news and is still extremely relevant today and
Romeo senses tensions are high with Tybalt, so he states, “I do protest I never injured thee but love thee better than thou canst devise.” (Lines 65-66 Act Three, Scene One). Romeo is trying to diffuse the situation because he realizes that Tybalt is his love's cousin. Mercutio is surprised by Romeo’s behavior, so he decides to fight Tybalt himself. Mercutio’s decision to fight Tybalt leads to his own death. Romeo is angered by the death of Mercutio and states, “Now, Tybalt, take the “villain" back again/ That late thou gavest me; for Mercutio’s soul.” (Lines 123-124 of Act Three, Scene One). Romeo is indicating that Tybalt is the villain now, because he slayed Mercutio. Romeo forgets about his attempt to befriend the Capulets and slays Tybalt. Romeo, murderer of Tybalt, solely focuses on Juliet and states “Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say “death"/For exile hath more terror in his look.” (Lines 12-13 of Act Three, Scene Three). Romeo does not care about Tybalt’s life, but only cares for the way it affects his relationship with Juliet. Romeo’s mother dies out of grief because of his banishment. Romeo’s recklessness in loving Juliet has led to the death of three
In the Shakespearean play, Romeo & Juliet, aggression is represented in different ways by the different characters in the play. Tybalt, Romeo, Benvolio, and the others all have their own way of dealing with hate and anger. Some do nothing but hate while others can’t stand to see even the smallest of quarrels take place.
There are many forces in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet that are keeping the two young, passionate lovers apart, all emanating from one main reason. In this essay I will discuss these as well as how love, in the end, may have been the cause that led to the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Their strong attraction to each other, which some call fate, determines where their forbidden love will take them.
Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare's first authentic tragedy. It is about two lovers who commit suicide when their feuding families prevent them from being together. The play has many characters, each with its own role in keeping the plot line. Some characters have very little to do with the plot; but some have the plot revolving around them. While the character of Friar Lawrence spends only a little time on stage, he is crucial to the development of the conclusion of the play. It is Friar Laurence’s good intentions, his willingness to take risks and his shortsightedness that lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
As shown in the book hasty decisions lead to bad things. William Shakespeare has also mentioned this multiple times. There are numerous examples of this in his play Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless impulsive choices make up most of this well known writing. These decisions are made by various characters and in different ways.
People die every day and many from suicide, it may seem ordinary. Most of these suicides may come from the loss of a loved one. Yet, the family wishes for answers for their loss of their loved one and may begin to ponder who is to blame for this tragic suicide. During the Renaissance time a man by the name of William Shakespeare wrote a play called “Romeo and Juliet”. These star-crossed lovers have to battle through a feud between their two families, and in their case it is not easy.
Often in life, people are told to think twice before they do something, as hasty decisions could have terrible repercussions. This advice is forgotten by Romeo Montague, one of the main characters in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet. Many times throughout the play, Romeo acts impulsively and irrationally, without thinking of the consequences of his actions. His irresponsibility and hasty decisions result in several unfortunate situations. It is obvious to the reader that much of the misfortune in the play is a result of his over dramatic personality. Many undesirable situations occur due to his incapability to listen to his conscience, the influence his emotions have on his decision making and his stubborn refusal to listen to people’s advice.

More specifically, when a person shows an aggressive attitude towards others, there is no doubt that one will result with an atrocious consequence. “Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me. Therefore turn and draw... Wretched boy, you hung out with him here, and you’re going to go to heaven with him.” (Act 3, Scene 1). Tybalt shows a disgusting attitude in front of Romeo and Mercutio. Thus, the situation leads to a deadly fight which ended up with Tybalt losing his own life. Hence, Tybalt’s fatal flaw of having evil plans has led to his unfortunate demise. In addition, a person with great anger towards another individual may also lead themselves to their demise. When Romeo sees Tybalt kill his comrade, Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge (Act 3, Scene 1). Although Romeo was successful in his revenge towards Tybalt, it doesn’t mean that he ran into a better situation. Under the orders of the Prince, Romeo was to be banished from the city of Verona. Due to Romeo’s fatal flaws of his impulsive anger towards Tybalt, he sets himself up for his own downfall. Considerably, this also sets out a moral that any act lit by our impulsive anger should not be condoned as we are not able to have the correct state of mind to handle such situations. In the long run, when people intend a negative behavior towards others, such as being mean, cruel, or being
“We met, we woo'd and made exchange of vow, I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us to-day.” (Shakespeare II.III. 60). Romeo’s impulsiveness is clearly shown through this quote that he states. The reason for Romeo’s impulsiveness is because he just recently met Juliet and he decides to marry her very quickly. Also this quote reveals to the audience Romeo’s hamartia. Since he is too quick and rash it will inevitably lead him to his fatal death; and through this quote you could see where Romeo went wrong and how it will greatly affect him. Furthermore Romeo leads the audience to believe that he is just infatuated by Juliet’s looks; due to the fact he was strongly in love with Rosaline and then all of sudden falls in love with Juliet and forgets about Rosaline which he claimed to be his one and only love. “Young men’s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.”(II.III.65). This quote that Friar Lawrence states planted into the readers mind that Romeo might not be truly in love but rather infatuated. This tragic play takes place in fair Verona where a quarrel between two families takes place due to an ancient grudge. Both families, Montague and Capulet hate each other with a great passion. Two lovers named Romeo and Juliet are both from the two opposing families and they love and marry each other in secret without their families knowing. Because of their impulsiveness and rash decisions it causes them to lead themselves to die a tragic death. Foil characters aid to heighten or highlight an attribute in another character which furthers the plot. The brilliant, author, actor, and mom, Amy Poehler once expressed, “It's never overreacting to ask for what you want and need.” (Amy Poehler) Overreactions are solidly based on the fact that one is very passionate and does not think things through because of it. People are blinded because of ignorance and they refuse to listen to what others have to say. In the classic play, Romeo and Juliet, star crossed lovers take their lives after a series of unfortunate events. William Shakespeare uses overreaction as a motif to develop the theme when people use passion instead of reason, disaster follows.
