The impacts of overfishing in the south china ecosystem

Overfishing by humans has caused destruction to the habitat of the South China Sea. Due to the destruction of the habitat, there are fewer species of fish and less fish overall. The lack of fish in the ecosystem from overfishing has led to its collapse. Another consequence of overfishing is that it can disrupt the food chain.(in-text citation)

Overfishing is the cause of the decline of south china sea ecosystem in the past few years. A Journalist from Share America found that fishermen keep catching the fish younger and younger so they don't have the time to reproduce causing the decline of the fish populations (Brukbacher). Which destroys the food chain because there's not enough food to GO around for the fish that eat other fish. In a study that a Gonzaga research Journal Found "In recent years, some species of fish have declined as much as 80 percent."(Fleming) …show more content…

But since everyone is fishing where they haven't been able to catch a lot of fish because they have fished most of them up so now they are overstepping their boundaries to go and catch more fish. Which is causing other fishermen to go into someone else territory and now their just fight over all the fish they keep catching fish at an alarming rate. Fish don't have time to reproduce and that is why the decline of fish is happening so fast right now. (IN text citation look over the whole paragraph) The consequences of overfishing are bad if we keep overfishing there will be no fish left and if we keep this up there will also be no coral reefs because fish have a big relationship with coral reefs. Because fish help coral reefs and keep them thriving and without fish, there would be no coral reef .

Before overfishing occurred there was a lot of diversities there were over 6,500 different species of fish
