1.1 Organizational Socialization One of the fundamental strategic practices Western companies should consider when engaging in global expansion opportunities with Asian territories, particularly the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Singapore and Hong Kong, is organizational socialization. 2.2 Cultivating Shared Understanding Cultivating shared understanding is applicable to all three stages of socialization: pre-employment, encounter, and adjustment. It is a vital process to ensure employees comprehend their work roles and the values of the corporation and further, how they are contributing towards the accomplishment of the corporation’s goals (Taormina, 1998, p. 470).
2.3 Training Training is part of the encounter and adjustment stages as there are initial trainings a new employee is required to complete, followed by ongoing trainings to ensure employees skills are up to date with the latest practices to improve their overall job effectiveness (Taormina, 1998, p. 470). One of the fundamental Confucian teachings the Chinese value is virtue in one’s own tasks. This is the virtue that drives the Chinse people to perform better by acquiring the necessary skills to do their jobs beyond what is expected in their field of work. Further, because Confucian teachings value trainings, Chinese employees are appreciative of company’s support continuous learning.
