Optics Student Panel -Professional Development Activities During the student panel discussion held by the optics department, students (undergraduate, graduate and current professor) reflected on their experiences while here at the institute. The panel was conducted so that students could ask about graduate school, internships, and professional development within the optics major.
Something special about the optics department is how they have Industrial Association, which is when members, faculty, and students connect with optics companies. With this opportunity, many panelists were able to receive jobs and addressed how they got hired, their internship/job experiences, and insight on what they did in their specific jobs. The panelist also suggested courses that they wish they would have taken or classes they think are helpful taking before starting a job. This was very insightful to hear since the optics department does allow you to take a few classes outside of the curriculum. With this information, I have started looking

Hearing a professor talk about their experience allowed me to see the other options outside of this university, and hear about the possibility of not being accepted here and moving forward with it. She went on to explain attending school at RIT and their color program offered. She also had a different path than most do after graduate school she was offered a job here at U of R as a professor but decided to go to industry before teaching. Her experience was very different from others and it is nice to hear that not everyone has the same path and although some struggle more than others but end up with the same goal. As Professor Kruschwitz also sits on the review committee for the graduate program she explained what the “ideal candidate” looks like and the review committee thought process of accepting
Overall, I was grateful for this experience. I was able to find out more about the behind the scenes responsibilities of our schools’ leadership.
...iece of advice was “don’t wait too long to get a job in the field, it changes every day and it is very easy to get behind with the advances in technology (Walden).” Overall Brad had some very good information and helpful advice.
The word oscilloscope is a word that combines from Latin and Greek language. The first part “oscillare” derives from the Latin words meaning to swing backwards and forwards. The second part comes from Classical Greek “skopein” means to observe, aim at, examine, from which developed the Latin ending “scopium”, which has been used to form names for instruments that enable the eye or ear to make observation.

The faculty of Gould academy is larger than most would think. People that work behind the scenes to help all of us out have very interesting lives of their own. Everyone in the Gould community is unique and they all have underlying passions and hobbies. One person in particular has some very interesting stories to share with us, that is Mrs. Ruth Hebert. Ruth grew up in Oxford county and now she is living in the town of West Pairs, currently working at Gould as part of the housekeeping staff. She has worked at various places while applying her trade. For example Ruth worked at a hospital, daycare program, also at Hebron Academy, etc. Mrs. Hebert had a lot of experiences other than ones she had at Gould. She had heard

My interest into becoming an optometrist had begun when I was in high school; it happened in an unconventional way. It was not through watching videos, or someone explaining to me what optometry was, but rather, seeing the power of it firsthand. There was a point in my life where I felt emotions that I was unable to comprehend at the time. Seeing a family member on an operating table was the most petrifying moment that I have gone through, especially when the person on the table was my father. My father had to get a chalazion removed from his right eyelid. The doctor told my family that my father would be susceptible to certain health risks because of his diabetes and the severity of his cyst. This procedure was the hardest thing I have had to deal with in my life because it made me feel helpless. Usually, when my dad needs help he always asks me, but this time I could not do anything. It is interesting to think that something so small had such a big affect on my life.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
After taking this course, this has been a struggling journey. I did not find fun in this class due to the grade I have now as a result. My writing skills did not improve from high school, losing confidence in myself to create well-written, interesting papers. However, this class has given me ideas about new styles of writing. Having done these papers helped me to discern the qualifications to write a rhetorical analysis essay from a visual critique paper. Here is how my experience in College Writing went.
Achieve that career goal. This class is a great leap for me to help me to reach the goal of
An oscilloscope is an electronic test instrument that is used to observe an electronic signal, typically voltage, as a function of time. In other words, it is a voltage versus time plotter. Oscilloscopes come in two basic types, analogue or digital, and support various features and functions useful for measuring and testing electronic circuits. An oscilloscope is a key piece of test equipment for any electronics designer.
Oftentimes, a person can look at an image and draw a conclusion about it, only to find out later that he or she was incorrect. This phenomenon is due to what is called an optical illusion, in which an image is perceived incorrectly to be something else. This leads to the questions, why do optical illusions occur, and what can be done about them?
Career Counseling, or Career Services depending on the institution, is frequently offered on a one-on-one basis, but at times this service is provided through group workshops, classes, or computerized guidance systems. Traditionally a standard function of the career services role is to help students develop job search skills however the scope of the career development services has broadened considerably in recent years (Komives, Woodard, & Associates, 2003, p. 344). Career services professionals may teach resume writing, critique students' resumes and cover letters, provide resources on resume and employment letter writing, job interviewing skills, and planning job search strategies. Students may be videotaped in mock interviews so they can see themselves in action. Additionally some career services offices involve alumni, school advisory committees, or employers in critiquing resumes, conducting practice interviews, or leading workshops. Many may also offer sessions on related topics such as professional networking, proper attire, or transitioning to the work place.
My interest in the University of Tulsa is strengthened by the required practicum and field experience, as well as, excellent faculty and facilities. I intend to pursue a career in applied research and organizational consulting, therefore, these qualities are imperative to myself and my career.
