Memory is an important information for a student in which it has a capability to recall and learn from the past experiences that influence student's behavior. According to Lauren Slater's book "Opening Skinner's Box states that, "Memory is narrative that gives continuity and meaning to our existence"(216). For it is a memory that has a unique abilities and meaning to a students that wherever they go, they see memories that become their extensions of knowledge and identity. Since students has a capability to recall memory, they also have a capability to forget memories that will benefit them from learning. Pavlov discovered that whenever the dog hears a bell it started to salivates and learned to associate with food. Thorndike’s cats put in the box that were rewarded for stepping the paddle could learn to escape from it. These two psychologists Pavlov and Thorndike focused on an animal behaviors because they taught that animals were passive, but eventually there experiments were right that even animals can be conditioned in the environment when rewards is present. Learning generates through testing that is true from animals and can be also true to human. In Slater views, this ideal community would be governed not by politicians, but by benevolent behaviorists armed with candy canes and blue ribbons which he wrote, "It is about the taming of mankind through a system of dog obedience schools for all"(15). Therefore, humans and animals have the same basis of obedience in the environment, provided that when animal experimentation refuse to work from a task the same stimuli that the human will also refused. This conditioning is important for it gives the students to know why their behaviors matter that will gradually improve them for mastery like for instance, that whenever a students presented with the reward of plus grade points, as a result the students will be more engaged in the …show more content…

Discounting old and useless information help the students in daily basis wherein it is difficult for a students to remember everything happens in a day like where it parked the car, it brings in the mind all the car parks that the students seen. Slater states that, “Normal human brain built within it mechanism that allows for forgetting" (219). Thus, human brain has the capacity to delete memory that is less relevant or inaccessible especially that caused them trauma like terrible events, plane crashes, or personal attacks that strongly needed to forget. However lost memories can be revived by recalling memories because brain has the ability to construct past experiences like to recall names and faces, skills like riding a bike or smoking cigarette. However, remembering memories matters at age, a young children for example has no idea how their memory works and that they will not remember everything they are told, but for about seven to eight years of age children come to have an understanding of memory. As children grow older they learn to recall their memories which starts to develop and improve for better understanding. She notes that, “Memory are the footprints we live in our lives; without them we look back and see just a blank stretch of snow, or someone else's signature entirely"(Slater181).
