To put it simply (as I recall and it's been years since I've had to read about this subject)a new territory was opened to settle in. It was decided that the settlers of these states would decide whether or not slavery would be permitted. This gave birth to the new Republican Party which opposed slavery. The Act was designed by Stephen A Douglas a Democratic senator from Illinois (the same who would later defeat a young Abraham Lincoln for the senate in 1858) and repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820. Thousands of settlers both pro and anti slavery rushed into Kansas particularly and bloody, murderous fights broke out among the groups hence the nickname "Bleeding Kansas". It was actually one territory but this Act divided it into two states.
The Civil War set the precedents for Oklahoma’s rush. In 1866, the U.S. government signed treaties with Five Civilized tribes. These five tribes supported the Confederacy in the Civil War, so as punishment, the U.S. Congress
Texas, the Big State that I heard so much about while living in Europe. When people in my country think of the United States of America, Texas comes to mind automatically. So, what is it about this state that makes it so popular, even overseas? Certainly, people associate Texas with cowboys and the place where everything is bigger by definition. However, to better understand such state, it is fundamental to put more emphasis in how it works. In other words, how it was created, and how it is governed.
I see now after reading Oklahoma why this musical has remained so popular throughout the years. I’ve always found it easier to watch a musical as opposed to reading one. However, the lively, upbeat tempo of the musical really made me feel that I was watching it.
The year was 1699, and two Spanish missionaries accompanied by a contingent of Spanish soldados were sent to northern Coahuila. Their instructions were to establish missions for the primitive tribes, hunters and nut gatherers that lived along the Rio Grande, the great river of the north. Gold, glory and God, essentially in that order, had motivated the founding of the missions. The Alamo itself was founded in 1718; however, due to disease and a reluctance of the locals to embrace Christianity the mission was abandoned in 1793. It wasn’t ...
All though only 1500 people lived in Kansas, 6,000 votes were cast. The pro-slavery group won. Kansas authorise laws supporting slavery. Slavery opponents did not accept the laws. They equip themselves, held their own elections, and support a constitution banning slavery. By January 1856, Kansas had two new opponents in government. All of these events link up to the birth of the Republican Party because the disagreement over the Kansas-Nebraska Act caused the old Whig Party to break up which caused the Republican Party to form. After the party proslavery southerners attacked the abolitionists and refused to let them vote which started the abolitionists to revolt which also created the republican
The United States of American is a country that was previously inhabited before the European Anglo-Saxons came across that Atlantic Ocean. It was a nation of independent people, multiple tribes in many places both those who made one place their home year round and others who traveled with the seasons. In the middle of this big island laid a land that belonged to the Osage tribe, and what a mighty tribe it was and still is. In the 17th century the original Osage tribe separated from the Sioux their language almost extinct belongs to the Siouan family, few Osage still speak this native language. This tribe is federally recognized by the United States Government and the majority of the tribal members are located on the Osage Reservation in north-central Oklahoma, but members of this tribe are throughout North America.
Texas is the size of Ohio, Indiana, and all the New England and Middle Atlantic states combined, and its vast area encompasses forests, mountains, deserts and dry plains, and a long, humid, subtropical coastal lowland. Texas's wealth of mineral resources is almost unequaled among the other states. Its rapid economic development stimulated by these resources and its vast size have made Texas an American legend. Oil wells, chemicals, ranches, and cattle have played a major part in that legend.

. Congress did not recognise the constitution adopted by the pro-slavery settlers and Kansas was not allowed to become a state. However, anti-slavery settlers outnumbered pro-slavery settlers and a new constitution was drawn up. On January 29, 1861, just before the start of the Civil War, Kansas was admitted to the Union as a free
Since the beginning of humankind, the study of geography has captured the imagination of the people. In ancient times, geography books extolled tales of distant lands and dreamed of treasures. The ancient Greeks created the word "geography" from the roots "ge" for earth and "grapho" for "to write." These people experienced many adventures and needed a way to explain and communicate the differences between various lands. Today, researchers in the field of geography still focus on people and cultures (cultural geography), and the planet earth (physical geography).
The state I call home is Florida. Florida is a unique place to live because of its rich history, environment, and location. Just by looking at Florida on a map, you can see its uniqueness right away.
Kansas City is a space that has become a place for me. Growing up in Kansas City, I always assumed this city was my place. By that I mean that it was the place I grew up, the place I learned about and eventually knew all there was to know about it. Kansas City is the place where I can close my eyes and navigate my way around, figuratively speaking. I have looked up in the city in terms of geographical location on Google maps. I have noticed that the numerous highways that connect the smaller counties within Kansas City to one another on Google maps but I never truly read or understood how to read Google maps. I assumed everyone used the map for navigation purposes.
What is geography? Author Alastair Bonnett attempts to answer this question in the book titled the same. He states that geography is a “human enterprise...[that] is an attempt to find and impose order.”1 He explores the many facets of geography that include history, political power, climate, and the humans that live throughout the world. The first two chapters explain in more detail about how geography is knowing the world through both political order and nature.
In this essay I will discuss the social, economic and political reasons of the negative and positive impacts of Mexican migration on the USA and Mexico. In this case, the source country, is Mexico and the host country is America. The US has a long history of immigration. Since the 1850s till now many Mexicans have illegally crossed the US border by swimming across the Rio Grande ,attempting to cross the Arizona desert or hiding in coaches in desperate search of, the major push factor, the American dream. The American dream can be summed up as an opportunity to become wealthier and the ability to achieve everything. Furthermore the US has been described as ‘the land of opportunity’ as in 2010 ,340 out of 100,000 adults launched a new business each month. However economist estimates that Mexico’s GDP will grow twice as fast as the US in the upcoming year.
