Can you imagine fighting in the Trojan war and trying to return home, but the god will not let you return for 20 years. Well that's what Odysseus had to go threw in the book The Odyssey by Homer. Odysseus was trying to return to his home Ithaca, where his wife Penelope was. Right before he had to leave for the war he had his first son Telemachus, but then right after he was born Odysseus had to leave for the war. The moral is that Homer way trying to show in the book is to never give up, he explores the epic hero inside Odysseus and how he cared for his men more than him. He always wanted another way to conquer things he never just wanted to pass them, he wanted to face his problems face to face with no fear. Odysseus demonstrates heroic, god-like qualities throughout The Odyssey. In one instance, he cleverly tricks and blinds the Cyclops Polyphemus, saving his crew from certain death. Odysseus also bravely travels to Hades to learn his fate. Upon reaching Ithaca, Odysseus takes on all of Penelope’s suitors, defeating them to reclaim his rightful place.
Odysseus never gave up, he never just said to himself we are never gonna get home Ithaca, he knew he was getting home someday. He perseveres when the only option he has is traveling to the Land of the Dead to meet Tiresias, the blind prophet to find out what his destiny is. He doesn't give up even when he knows that Scylla, the 6 headed monster, is going to attack his boat, and eat some of them. Even with men dying all around him, he keeps going and never gives up.
Odysseus was very couragous throughout the whole story especially when he meets Polyphemus the Cyclops when the monstrous beast traps him and his men in a cave and threatens to eat him and his men alive. However, while the Cyclops is sleeping, Odysseus summons the courage to sharpen a wooden stake and use it to gouge out the monster's eye. Odysseus' bravely rescues his men from certain death. Also he made sure him and his men made it home
