Recommended: Bad effects of desalination

I am against the desalination of ocean water because it is harming a lot of the animals in the ocean and it makes it difficult for the economy because they are using a lot of the money for the desalination. The desalination is taking out millions of gallons of water from the ocean while harming sea life and in the end only half of that water is drinkable. Even though they have been in a drought for many years the water desalination negatively affects many more things.

One reason I think they should stop the desalination is that people are wasting 100 gallons of ocean water for only 50 gallons of fresh drinking water. After doing that they will return the leftover water, but it would have twice as much salt when it’s returned to the ocean. When they put the extra salt into the ocean the sea life would not be as healthy and they could die. This hurts the environment a lot and because they are doing this everyday it will start to …show more content…

There are many of the little fish in the ocean. Bigger sharks and other sea life depend on them for food and when most of the little fish are getting killed the predators will not have food.

The last reason I think they should stop it is that the desalination is very expensive because it takes up a lot of electricity and the residents who are against the desalination will have to pay more for taxes and they will get very upset. Also, 20 percent of the water delivered failed to become drinking water for 46 days. The residents were supposed to get this water and they payed for it in their taxes and 20 percent of it did not come for more than a month. I think this is unfair for the people in California who are upset for paying for water and didn’t get the amount they were
