The world is changing with the advancement of technology. People in our society, including teenagers, adults, and elders addicted to computers, television, cell phones, videogames, and cars. This addiction is making them sedentary. Going back in history, the human body is made for hunting, farming, and household work but the advancement of technology is making us sedentary. The sedentary lifestyle is leading increase in chronic health conditions and higher all-cause mortality. Human body is reacting to this change in nature, by being less immune to numerous chronic health conditions.

This result has got people afraid of what would happen in the future if people don’t change their habits. An excessive storage of fat due to lack of physical activity and high calorie intake that often leads to other diseases is known as obesity. Obesity is an escalating problem, because people consume more calories and aren’t physically active; this could result in health problems, yet people can resolve this issue by consuming a healthy diet and regularly exercising, or consulting a doctor for medication or surgery if other solutions weren’t effective.
Electronics are getting more common than ever. All around we see people on their devices. Almost everyone around us is addicted to flat screen devices such as cell phones, computers, tablets, televisions and so on. According to a new report from the Pew Internet and American Life project, nearly 90% of Americans now own a cell phone, computer, MP3 player, game console, e-book reader or tablet computer (qtd. In Gahran). Flat screens are everywhere, which makes them harder to resist, creating an huge issue of flat screen addiction in American society. This is a shocking issue that needs to be restrained.
Recently my 13 year old brother received his second phone, an IPhone 4s. I could not believe it a 13 year old carrying around one of the best pieces of technology in our world. Since then my brother’s free time outside running around has decreased drastically. His eyes and hands are glued to his IPhone 4s. Finding him playing basketball or throwing a football around in my yard when I go home on the weekends has become less and less. This is just one of thousands of children whose physical activity has suffered due to technology. Today our society has created the perception to children that without the latest technology they are not ‘cool’ or even worse poor. Kids then beg their parents for updated technology in order to fit in. Face it even adults these days need the latest technology to stay updated with their work. The routine of most children that come home from school is eat, watch tv, see some more commercials on food and video games and continue the awful habit they’ve created. The urge to play outside or get involved in a team is less appealing then beating their record at Call of Duty while getting a sugar high. Our world is creating an environment where playing Candy Crush is more popular than playing a sport. Thirty-two percent of children ages 2-19 are overweight and seventeen percent is considered to be obese (Hingle, Dale). The media influence on the youth shows a positive correlation to childhood obesity.
In the real world today, technology has advanced extremely that we do not notice it. With this technology, we have a problem which is people are addicted to electronics such as their phone. The majority of people today uses technology to find information or to chat with a friend. One addiction that people have is texting and driving, which can harm to people and yourself. Also, people do not realize what health problems it can cause. Even though technology is helpful to us, it can also cause trouble to us. We need to limit our technology use to help prevent these causes.

The “fidgety” feeling as mentioned by Carr is a clear sign of anxiety that shines through due to addiction. Plenty of individuals experience this squirmy feeling when they are in rehab, withdrawing from a substance such as heroin. Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. There’s no need of standing in the kitchen all day anymore. With the convenience of a microwave, it has made our life a little easier. In fact, you can microwave a frozen dinner in just thirty-minutes. Many people have been exposed to the less stressful and convenient way of preparing meals.
