My client for this design was John Sutton, CEO and founder of ‘Oakland Landscaping’. John established his landscape design business in 2000 and in the past 17 years has been able to grow the business to be competitive with other landscaping design businesses. The brands recent uprise is due to the publicity in the magazine ‘Australian House & Garden’. Due to this recent publicity the businesses has had an influx of new clients and larger jobs leading to them needing to employee more staff to keep up with this demand. The office building they have been inhabiting was in the heart of the Melbourne CBD but is no longer suitable as it is too small and cramped for a growing business. This lead to their first request. ‘Oakland Landscaping’ requested plans for a brand new, modern building which would be used as the main office of the company. The building had to be built on the property of 43 Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn and be sustainable and cost effective to run. It had to also include a waiting room and consultation rooms. John also mentioned he wanted open workspaces in order to promote creativity and teamwork. He asked that the design be presented in the format of floorplans, elevations and a 3-dimensional model which would be shown to the company’s ‘Board of Management’ for final approval. This decision was made after looking into many different categories of promotional materials and referring back to the brief as to which would be the best fit as seen on this page. The decision on where the materials were to be handed out was also decided through the brief via a survey. The results of the survey showed that the majority of the business target audience, consisting of prospective clients, were located in a 25km proximity of the Melbourne CBD as seen on this page.
