“Some of nursing care knowledge has been based on, personal and group experiences, and has or been transmitted from generation to generation through apprenticeship, teaching or textbooks” (Melesis, 2012, p.114). The nurse knowledge in conjunction with their experience will help determine the nurse course of action when it comes to patient’s care. “Carper describes aesthetics as the art of nursing in which is based on the direct feeling of experience” (Mantzorou and Mastrogiannis, 2011, p. 253). As the nurses gain the necessary knowledge, works with physicians and other members of the health care team, their goal becomes to assist the patient with achieving their optimal level of health. When the nurse participates in the research and understands the necessary knowledge gained from the study, effectively use the knowledge within their current practice, this will help enhance their nurse’s skills as well as building self -confidence within the individual. As the self-confidence exist with the nurse in their current practice, there will be an improved level of quality of care delivered to the patient.
As technology advances, along with more patients being presented to the hospital or within the community with multiple chronic illnesses or disease, this becomes the potential of a nursing challenge for the twenty-first century. One of the major challenge faced is the nurse “not being up to date with advances, or latest technology, and providing safe care in a complex health environment” (Gimenes and Faleiros, 2014, p. 1). The nurse goal is to gain the necessary knowledge that will provide safe and effective nursing care for the patient, family and local community. As previously mentioned, this can be done by participating in nursing research or evidence based practice.
