In the recent years, the nursing field has become one of the largest job growth all around the world. Nursing is a profession embedded in the principles of professionalism of care, dedication, and commitment. As a nursing student, I have learned to so many different diseases, preventions, and treatments. I remember as a young child, I have witnessed my grandfather having a difficulty breathing, he was showing signs of heart problems due to high potassium level. I was there next to him while watching all the nurses and healthcare members taking care of him right when he first stepped into the Emergency Department (ED) and later on transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This organization “fosters nursing practice, promote safe and work environment, and advocating health care issues” (ANA, 2018). Moreover, ANA has empowered nurses for so many years and it is beneficial for all Registered Nurses (RN) in the delivery of care, as well as improving healthcare work environment. This organization is absolutely beneficial for me in all the specialty areas that I have chosen because it is a way to ensure that my patients are receiving all the essential health care services and ensuring that my patients are staying safe. Another nursing affiliation that I could join is the Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma). Sigma “focus on education, leadership, career development, and research” (SIGMA, 2018). This organization would be beneficial for me because it is a way for me to move my specialty forwards since it offers continuing education. After I finished my BSN program, I will continue to pursue further education and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. Moreover, Sigma offers interactive learning activities with various learning formats that are available for nursing students. International Council of Nurses (ICN) is another organization that I could join as an undergraduate nursing student. This international organization “influences nursing and health policy through nursing articles, practice innovation, and nursing education” (ICN, 2018). This organization will be beneficial for me because it is a way for me to keep up with the healthcare policies around the world. I might travel to a different parts of the countries to work as a nurse, therefore, it will be helpful to learn the health care policies
The nursing discipline embodies a whole range of skills and abilities that are aimed at maximizing one’s wellness by minimizing harm. As one of the most trusted professions, we literally are some’s last hope and last chance to thrive in life; however, in some cases we may be the last person they see on earth. Many individuals dream of slipping away in a peaceful death, but many others leave this world abruptly at unexpected times. My research paper is on the healthcare occupation, in particularly,the field of licensed practical nursing, also called licensed vocational nurses. In my paper, I will cover such things as the definition of career choice, certain requirements, the expected job duties and responsibilities, any additional licensure that is required. After discussing these topics, I will then point out the potential of finding a job, the ranges of salary, as well as the environment I would be working in. Finally, I will talk about the potential growth in this field and legal requirements. Now i will start with the definition of my career choice.
A week before Christmas in 2013, my stepfather suddenly lost consciousness. His body stiffened and he began to violently convulse – he was having a seizure. Later in the hospital, the doctors informed us that my stepdad had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The anguish that I felt that night was eased by a nurse who talked to my family about my stepfather’s condition and assured us that the hospital would do everything that they can to assist him with recovery. The next few weeks were filled with uncertainty as my stepdad laid comatose, no knowledge of when or even if he would wake up. During that time, my interactions with the nurses always made me feel safe and comforted Unfortunately, he passed away in January 2014. Though this was a traumatic and life altering experience, what I remember most are the nurses that provided care to my stepfather. They went above and beyond their outlined job duties to care for my loved one and to make my family feel secure even in such a difficult time.
Nursing is a varied career that offers opportunities to many. It offers a range of facilities and options for all. Nursing is an ethical centered profession that requires its members to give of themselves. Each individual must maintain a professional atmosphere while upholding his or her personal integrity. Each nurse brings his or her own unique values and beliefs to their work and care. A strong conviction toward those ideals is essential in the profession. My nursing experience and application of nursing theory is still relatively young. I attended Georgia Southwestern for my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from which I graduated in 2016. Prior to this I obtained my CNA license in high school which was my first introduction to patients. It was at this point that I decided that I wanted to provide quality compassionate and the best medical treatment possible to people. Since graduation I have begun to work at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, GA; and began nurse practitioner school.
Registered nurses provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members (Purdue) all within an eight-hour period not including the work the paper work. Nurses spend a vast amount of their time completing paper work and writing out care plans. A nurse is not a nurse unless they know how to write in several different forms.
Wayne (2014), quoted that “People often think that nursing is just an easier alternative to becoming a doctor. When can we escape from this? Probably not, and that’s beyond our control. But this irrational assumption has proved nothing through the years. It only motivated nurses from showing the world their worth and how much of a difference nursing makes”. I also loved when she said that one of the most exciting jobs in the world is nursing and that we should wear the title with pride and that we, nurses, are unique. I totally agree with her, what nurses do is not easy. One of my favorite quotes is “Nurses don’t wait until October to celebrate Make a difference Day - they make a difference EVERY DAY!” (Nurseslabs). As a nurse we put a lot of knowledge, time, effort, and love in caring for our patients making sure that we give our 100 % sometimes even more.
I have soon come to realize how much more there is to nursing than just helping and healing. Nursing is not taking care of individuals it is caring for them. Caring is not only important when concerning nurse and patient relationships. It is important in every aspect of humanity. The culture of caring involves intervening programs that help to build caring behaviors among nurses. As nurses become stressed and become down on their life it has shown that caring for oneself before others is key in caring for patients. Also, throughout the years many theorists have proven that caring has come from many concepts and ideas that relate directly to ICU nursing. After completing registered nursing school in 2006, a few years later, I obtained a bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2016. Over the last 10 years, I have tried to look for inefficient procedures, finds ways to streamline them, and consistently have striven to boost the productivity of everyone around me.
