The purpose of this post is to analyze the data submitted in this template. I will focus on two leading causes of death in Cuyahoga county, cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer.
To conclude this post I will write two priority health nursing diagnoses. According to Ohio Department of Health (2014), cardiovascular disease is a primary cause of death in Cuyahoga county, as well in the United States. Death rate, in Cuyahoga county, due to cardiovascular disease is is 203.9 per 100, 000 population. Cardiovascular disease involves a number of heart conditions, such as heart valves problem, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and atherosclerosis which may cause ischemic stroke due to blockage of blood . vessels. Some of the nursing interventions would include educating patients and public on risk factors, a heart healthy diet, smoking cessation, and the importance of physical activity. Recognizing the need to address these issues is a must in order to decrease the death rate caused by cardiovascular disease. Second leading cause of death in Cuyahoga county is lung cancer. Its death rate is at 52.4 per 100, 000 population (Ohio Department of Health, 2014). Not just in Cuyahoga county and
Ohio but worldwide lung cancer is leading cause of cancer-related death. Usually, lung cancer is diagnosed late and the 5-year survival rate is only 15%. Possible treatments for lung cancer are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation (Polanski, Jakowsa-Polanska, Rosinczuk, Chabowski &

Once the patient is diagnosed with lung cancer some of the nursing interventions include providing emotional support, ways to control and decrease anxiety, and pain control. Overall Cuyahoga county has many health issues. According to Center for Disease
Control and Prevention (2010), 38.9% of adults living in Cuyahoga county are overweight,
24.3% adults are smokers, 31.7% adults have a high cholesterol, and 31.2% have a high blood pressure. All of these numbers are higher than in most of other counties in the Ohio State.
The County Health Ranking in 2014 rated Cuyahoga county as 65 out of 88 counties for health related issues. The number of chronic diseases in Cuyahoga county such as obesity, diabetes, heart diseases is increasing. We as a community must do better to protect our environment and ourselves. In conclusion, as nurses, we play a big role in educating our patients. To prevent any disease healthy lifestyle, including healthy diet and exercise is very important. The second thing, that I advocate strongly, is regular physical check up and being able to recognize early symptoms is the key to preventing and controlling any health
