Student’s textbooks should be replaced by notebook computers for several reasons. Initially notebook computers will sum up to be the cheaper choice to make. Subsequently another major factor is the fact that anything online does not have to be printed which means that a lot of trees will not be cut down meaning that a lot of waste will not be created. Furthermore a notebook computer is much easier to be taught and to learn from. Replacing the traditional textbooks with notebook computers will allow it to take the spot of the traditional textbook, letting it to be known that technology is the future. Over time a laptop or a computer notebook that is purchased can sum up to be cheaper than the traditional textbook. For example“…costs for the textbooks is $750. An Acer laptop costs $234, and all five electronic textbooks would cost approximately $400. The cost of the laptop and electronic resources total $634. The savings to you as a student is just over $100. Over the past few decades, technology has advanced significantly. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased. On a large scale, technology is replacing traditional methods of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in the learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, a professor at Yale University and a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests limiting the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” published in the New Republic magazine in 1994.
Years ago, the foremost technology was simple and only somewhat effective, namely verbal communication (talking or writing). However, nowadays, we have modern methods of teaching; for example, typing and keeping files online. One educational resource that has changed is the textbook. For instance, in the article, “Top 12 Ways Technology Changed Learning” by Dr. Katherine McKnight, it states, “Today’s textbooks often have web-based sites that include assessments, animations, additional materials, videos, and other materials to support the learning of new content.” This proves technology that enables enriching learning resources has permanently altered how this generation is taught.
In the readings of Everything’s an Argument, Per the text, “ …eliminating physical books from college campuses would be a positive step for our 21st century students...” (14). I must disagree with the idea that all eliminating paper course materials would be a step forward for future students. Personally, I like having paper books and other course materials because I enjoy the break from electronics. When a person reads on electronics consistently, it can damage their eyes or cause other health for the students.

In the Wall Street Journal article, “Does Technology Belong in Classroom Instruction,” Lisa Neilson and José Antonio Bowen take opposing sides to the topic of technology being integrated into instructional material. Neilson argues that instructing students on using technology appropriately and effectively can benefit and prepare students for the fast paced future. She claims that the use of electronics in the classroom encourages students to expand their knowledge of assignments and improves their literacy. Neilson states that students use their digital devices to upload English papers and receive feedback from people all around the world, conducting virtual dissections, and utilizing resources to further their understanding (Neilson, 2015).
From the time a child enters kindergarten in the public school system as a newly initiated student, to the time that same student finishes high school, he or she will probably never have to pay a dime on one textbook, unless the student has to pay replacement fees for the destruction of property or for losing the textbook that he or she was using. However, if a student wishes to pursue a higher education in college, he or she will quickly come to the realization that textbooks are no longer readily available to be used for free while pursuing their college education. No matter what classes the student takes, whether those classes be at community college or a private university, the student must buy or rent his or her textbooks for each class.
All institutions whether attending a university, community, or even a technical college, requires the student to purchase a textbook in order to be successful in the class. Some textbooks aren’t even open all semester and the information and statistics can be out of date and can greatly affect your overall knowledge on certain topics. In addition, cost free text books can enhance the quality of education by the teachers and serve more accessibility to working students. Although councils and administrations can’t approve cost free text books, policies such as, Open Textbook, bookstore rentals, and affordable textbook act should be offered nationwide. As an experienced freshmen surviving the first year of college, textbooks should be purchased free of cost provided by institutions throughout the country.

Although personal laptops in the classroom have numerous advantages, there have also been frequent complaints from professors because laptops hinder with learning, and as a result should be banned from bringing them into the classroom since laptops can easily distract students, not every student can afford purchasing a laptop, and would prevent students from cheating or plagiarizing.
