Fraternal twins and inseparable friends, NoahandJude, live with their parents, Benjamin and Dianna. The twins grow up in a stable home environment where they are instructed in both reason and emotion, knowledge and art. Both Noah and Jude are intelligent, and well-adept in art. Their mother insists they both apply to a private high school, the California School of the Arts. Noah and Jude get along very well together, and do everything together, until they are 13. When they are 16, Noah is attending the local public high school while Jude attends CSA. She cannot get her sculptures right, and so is sent out to mentor with famed sculptor Guillermo Garcia. Guillermo himself is reeling from heartache. He also mentors to 19-year-old Oscar, whom is heartbroken years after the death of his own mother. Oscar and Jude take an instant liking to one another, and Jude later learns that Guillermo is the one who was having an affair with her mother, something for which she forgives him. Meanwhile, Noah has been making dangerous dives from the rocky coastal cliffs near Lost Cove, believing that his mother’s ghost guides him down into the ocean to safety. While attempting one such jump while drunk, it is Oscar who saves Noah. Oscar and Jude soon after become an item. As the novel ends, both twins confess the truth to each other – about their mother and CSA – and reconnect. Noah, Jude, and their father decide to sell their house and live on a houseboat. Paine, Noah’s father, is in jail and that puts more pressure on Noah’s mom because she truly cares about Noah and Abbey. Noah’s mom has to play the roles of both mom and dad because she is the only adult in the house and needs to take care of Noah and Abbey since Paine is in jail. The following quote by Noah proves that his mom is stressed, “My mother says that being married to my father is like having another child to watch after, one who’s too big and unpredictable to put in time-out.” This quote shows how family is helping you get through tough times because because Donna, Noah’s mom, knows she has Noah’s support and his listening ear.
Anais and Sam may have many similarities, but they did not even grow up together, have the same adopted parents, or go to the same school. From that being said nature definitely, plays a big part throughout these girls. Many twins are very similar in different ways. Some might be getting the same test scores as the other based on the knowledge of their parents, but others might get the same results on a test based on the different ways they study. The Jim twins are exactly like Anais and Sam. They both are twins who were separated at birth. Not only that but they found out that they both had so much in common with their twin. Even though the Jim twins had even more unbelievable similarities they also had some differences. Which would involve not growing up with the same parents, childhood, friends, schooling, and even more. There was a story that was talking about how a young girl was abandoned by her family so a pack of stray dogs took her in and raised her. She was eventually found at age eight. This girl showed many traits of a dog. She had walked on all fours, barked, and even developed a better sense of smell, hearing, and taste. With this being said the girl had developed the nurture side of things rather than the nature side. Genie being a feral child had hardly got any food. When she was found she only weighed 59 pounds. When Genie was found, like I said she had no grasp of communication or language. She learned that if she were to make a sound she would badly beat, and she learned that at a very young age. Even as a young child alone in the forest, Beah states that the loneliness was what made the forest a difficult place to inhabit. Nature also used to be something that comforted him prior to the war, but this was due to the stories his grandparents used to tell him. Even with nature all around him, Beah is unable to focus on what used to bring him happiness, trading it in for loneliness instead, which demonstrates how much not having his family has affected him. In addition, after Beah runs into a group of boys, three of which he used to go to school with, he joins them on their journey to find safety. They find a house off the coast of the Atlantic, which turns out to be a fishing hut of a kind man who hosts the boys. The boy’s host refuses to reveal his name to them, but understands that Beah and his group mean to do no harm to him, and that they are only children, something that had been forgotten by other villagers the group had encountered. After a few days, Beah and his friend’s begin to talk more to each other in the hut as their spirits were able to be lifted for the short time

Rather, it is the way a character responds to those circumstances that provides a display of who he is. "From the Epic of Gilgamesh", as translated by N.K. Sandars, and "Noah and the Flood" from the Book of Genesis, both Gilgamesh and Noah face similar circumstances, but don’t always respond to them the same way.
When two siblings are born together, and are close in age, many people wonder whether they will be the same or different altogether. A “River Runs through it” shows two brothers who grew up in the same household, and grew up loving to do the same activity fly fishing. Both brothers were raised in a very strict presbyterian household. Norman is the older brother, and he is much more responsible and family orientated. Paul is the irresponsible younger brother; Paul as an adult was not at home much anymore. Both brothers were loved equally as children, but how they view and use love is what separates them. Noah reads their love story to Allie everyday in hopes that she will remember him and everything they have experienced together. Throughout most of the day as he reads to her, she does not recall that the story is about herself and Noah. She also does not remember who her children and grandchildren are when they come to visit. At the end of the film Allie becomes lucid for a few moments and realizes that the story Noah is reading is their own and they begin to dance together. The roles of Noah and Utnapishtim in the Flood Myths are quite similar. There are several differences regarding the two flood myths, but the general idea behind the two remains consistent. In the Mesopotamian Flood Myth, the Gods were overwhelmed by the amount of humans that existed on Earth and were unable to sleep due to the noise of men. So they decided to "exterminate mankind." While in the Hebrew story of Noah and the Flood Myth, God grew tired of the evil that had plagued mankind and engulfed the earth. So God decided to start the world over to undue the mistakes of man. Both of these stories display an attempt by the Gods to start the world over to cleanse the earth. Both Utnapishtim and Noah were spoken to by Gods and asked to build large boats from which all who were to be spared would seek shelter during the storm. Both men were allowed to spare the lives of their family via the safety of the boats. Also, the method used by the Gods in these myths are the same, the skies would rain down upon the earth flooding the land and killing all who were not ordered onto the boats.
When the children become stranded on the island, the rules of society no longer apply to them. Without the supervision of their parents or of the law, the primitive nature of the boys surfaces, and their lives begin to fall apart. The downfall starts with their refusal to gather things for survival. The initial reaction of the boys is to swim, run, jump, and play. They do not wish to build shelters, gather food, or keep a signal fire going. Consequently, the boys live without luxury that could have been obtained had they maintained a society on the island. Instead, these young boys take advantage of their freedom and life as they knew it deteriorates.
The man, Noah, is a poet in Allie's eyes and he expresses love as, "Our souls were one, if you must know and never shall they be apart; With splendid dawn, your face aglow I reach for you and find my heart" (183). As teenagers, the two of these "love birds" had one summer of intense passion that was ended abruptly by Allie's parents disapproval. When Allie left New Bern the couple planned to keep in touch by writing letters, but because Allie's moms did not approve of Noah, she hid all his letters from her without Allie knowing. Noah continued to write but without a reply, his hopes dissolved. While Noah sat on his porch playing his guitar with his three-legged dog Clem, he reminisced about the adventures they had, foreshadowing the events that followed. "And if, in some distant place in the future, we see each other in our new lives, I will smile at you with joy, and remember how we spent a summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love. And maybe, for a brief moment, you'll feel it too, and you'll smile back, and savor the memories we will always share together" (151). There are surprises one would never expect and descriptions that one can't even imagine; they pull the reader in and paint a picture in the mind. This novel will make the reader cry, gasp, sigh, and cry once more.
This theme is a big lesson learned throughout the whole story of Allie and Noah. She loves Noah with all of her heart when she is a young woman, and yet when they were separated for a period of time she finds her way back to him. When Allie sees Noah again for the first time in years, she realizes she never stopped loving him and her heart belongs to him. When she has to choose between Noah and Lon, she follows her heart and chooses the man to whom she loves most.
The couple spent the summer together and developed the meaning of true love. One evening, Noah takes Allie, to an old farmhouse, tells her his dream of buying and restoring it one day, she tells him she wants to be a part of that dream, she wants the house white, have blue shutters, a wrap-around porch, and wants a room that overlooks the creek so she can paint. With all the excitement the two lost track of time and when she returned home she found out her parents called the police; her parents forbid her to ever see Noah again. Allies parents did not approve of the social differences in the teens upbringing. Allie’s mother moved her away to New York, for her to forget Noah, and interact with people of her social lifestyle at college.
