The story Flush written by Carl Hiaasen has many themes. I focused on what I thought was the most important theme. I focused on family because they help you get through tough times, to support the family theme my three topics are Noah’s father is in jail, be there for your family, and lastly operation Royal Flush.

Paine, Noah’s father, is in jail and that puts more pressure on Noah’s mom because she truly cares about Noah and Abbey. Noah’s mom has to play the roles of both mom and dad because she is the only adult in the house and needs to take care of Noah and Abbey since Paine is in jail. The following quote by Noah proves that his mom is stressed, “My mother says that being married to my father is like having another child to watch after, one who’s too big and unpredictable to put in time-out.” This quote shows how family is helping you get through tough times because because Donna, Noah’s mom, knows she has Noah’s support and his listening ear.

My next claim is about being there for your family. Abbey overheard her mom talking to grandma Janet about a divorce. Noah and Abbey desperately did not want their parents to get a divorce. Noah’s mom then explained in a quiet and calm voice that she …show more content…

The three claims all related to the theme family. The three claims were, Noah's father is in jail, be there for you family, and operation Royal Flush. Noah’s mom really has to be there for Noah and Abbey. Being there for your family relates to family because Noah's mom was thinking about getting a divorce but then she explained how she would never leave Noah and Abbey. Lastly operation Royal Flush relates to family because Noah and Abbey wanted to nail Dusty so bad that they got on the Coral Queen and flushed dye down the toilet. This proves to their dad that they really do care about him by setting up a plan to nail Dusty
