Victims’ Rights and Protection In the United States of America, victims’ rights are established in every state providing victims protection, security, respect, compensation, restitution, prosecution, and ultimately justice. The right to protection includes security from threats, manipulation and coercion, revenge, and much more depending on the victims’ circumstances. In some states, protection also entails police services and escort, witness protection, relocation, and restraining orders (The National Center for Victims of Crime, 2012). She and a friend was brutally murdered in 1994, in which her ex-husband, highly publicized and famous former NFL player O.J. Simpson, was accused and later acquitted of the charges. Nicole was involved in domestic and intimate partner violence that was said to have gone on for years. Her then husband, O.J. Simpson, was the culprit of her abuse, which was claimed to be both physical and verbal. On New Year’s Day 1989, Nicole was beaten badly by O.J. It was stated that Mr. Simpson punched and kicked his then wife, slapped her extremely hard in the neck, and threatened to kill her (Meyers, 1994).
