In Spider-man Uncle Ben said to Peter Parker ,“Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility.” When reading Newton Minow’s “Vast Wasteland” speech the quote came to myself because he was saying that the people and the government have a great responsibility when it comes to the power over television. The power of television first lies in the hands of the television broadcasters because they determine what is on the screen. Parents also play a role in the responsibilities as to what they allow to be shown in their households. The government also have very high responsibilities as to what they allow the broadcaster to show through the television. Many responsibilities come with television and many people hold the power as to whether it is for the good or evil. The broadcasters have the most power and responsibilities when it comes to whether television is used for good or evil. Television broadcasters have the right to show anything they want through television. Broadcasters are the people who determine what is shown through the screen and what the people see of the world today. Parents have the power to not allow television in their homes and if they do allow it they have the power as to what they allow to be shown in their homes.
