Dating. It’s just like checking out books in a library, except a little bit different. You peruse the bookshelves looking for the perfect book; you pick them up, read them and then return them if they’re not right for you. All the different genres are astonishing and finding the right one takes time, but eventually you pick up the right book, decide to read it, and then buy it all for yourself, keeping it forever. We wish it was that straightforward, after all, people are strikingly different from books. Dating itself isn’t that simple, as we can’t just skip over the unbelievably awkward parts of the book that make us all cringe and go, “I wish this could just be over with” with a cursory glance, even though we severely want to. When we talk about awkward dates, I’m sure almost everyone has a certain instance pop into their mind, a cringeworthy experience they’d never want to repeat no matter how much anyone paid them. This date, only recently known as the “Netflix and Chill” is an awkward classic. It doesn’t have to be Netflix, insert any activity you like, but know you’re in for a rough time. You can usually tell you’re in for a date like this when your significant other asks you over and there's coincidentally no one else home and they seem to be acting strangely. Obviously you’re up to do more than watch a movie, as seen by your sweatpants, ratty t-shirt, and fingers covered in butter from the popcorn. Let’s be honest, you just want to watch The Breakfast Club in peace, but it’s challenging when your date looks at you every three seconds, clearly not understanding that you’re more invested in John and Claire’s sardonic jabs at each other than him.
